Finished quilts

I just posted a few pictures to Webshots (one of my projects is to find a less commercial site and get them moved, but I haven't got that done yet) of a couple of quilts I finished. Neither are anything special - but hey, I'm just glad to have finished something! Starry Nights was started four years ago and finished earlier this year, but I hadn't taken pictures until today. The baby quilt was started about three years ago and finished this morning. I haven't decided on a new home for it yet - it may go to my niece, who is due next week. She already has a store-bought quilt that "goes" with the baby's room and it's very nice, but I'm thinking she needs something brighter for the little one to play on.

Nice, Louise! :D Did you use the same backing on both? I love your feathers.

Thanks, Sandy! No, the backings are actually different. On the baby quilt, it's orange, and on Starry Nights, it's gold - but with the lighting in the area where I took the pictures, it's hard to tell!

Lovely quilts Louise! You work quickly hey!! (Smiling and ducking!) The color way for the baby quilt works beautifully.

Those are really pretty. I love the colors in the baby quilt especially.

Webshots is getting a little aggressive with their ads! :-) (but it was worth it)

What? You mean it doesn't take everyone three years to finish a baby quilt? Gee, what's wrong with them?

I like the orange/turquoise (or some shade of blue!) combination too. I was a little leery at first, but warmed up to it. And believe it or not, when I got my longarm, one of the freebies was a spool of variegated thread in those same colors - so I guess it was meant to be!

Thanks, Sherry! I appreciate your braving Webshots to take a look. I think it's time to look at Flickr or something like that.

Done is good! And how lucky your niece will be!

Just moved most of my stuff to Flickr from Webshots and was really impressed with how easy and quick it was. It took way longer to find the files that hadn't been renamed from the camera. Should'a done it a long time ago!

You didn't waste any time after retirement, Louise. :-) Terrific quilts, both!

I'm very partial to quilts with dark backgrounds. Really makes your solid stars "pop"!

And the baby quilt is adorable. Very interesting pattern.

Thanks, Michelle! The baby quilt was really easy - simply a 9-patch alternating with a snowball, but the resulting design comes from the placement of the fabric. If I'd made the snowball corners orange, it would have looked entirely different. Hmm, now that I think about it, I might have enough fabric left to try that!

Sometimes here I suggest that other rctq-ers join me in making quilts for NIN. I know you'll understand if I just leave you alone. We wouldn't get many babies hugged with your record. ..... =) as to Starry Nights, how on earth did you manage to assemble so many star colors that just sing together? Polly

Actually, I did think of sending this one to NIN. I'm going to talk to my niece tomorrow, and I'm going to try to figure out if she wants/needs this one. If not, it's a donation!

As for Starry Nights, well . . . I do have a stash! I pretty much stuck with tone-on-tones/marbles when I was picking out the colors for the stars, and that worked the magic!

Thanks Roberta. I like "finished," and since I have a stack of UFOs to work on, getting a couple done is a good feeling.

Oh, they are lovely...the colors on the baby one just pop and I am green envious of your long arm quilting. Stary nights is equally beautiful and those stars shine! Thank you so much for sharing the pictures. They inspire me! Donna

Thanks, Donna! I appreciate your taking time to look at them. It's been so long since I finished one of my own, I have both of them sitting in the living room where I can reach out and fondle them whenever I feel like it!
