Enjoy your trip and time with family. Having worked in the hotel industry, I advise you to make reservations in advance. Chain hotels have all the info you need online. If you don't have reservations you may not find rooms.

Rochester (home of the Mayo Clinic) is about 12 miles north of I-90 on Highway 52. We have 2 very nice quilt shops -- Just a Little Something and Quilting Cupboard, plus a Joann's, a Hancock Fabrics, and a Mill End Fabrics. Mill End has lots of brand name fabrics for very reasonable prices, though they may be discontinued or flat folds, some with flaws. There is also a nice store - All in Stitches - in Stewartville, a small town about 1 mile south of the I-90/Hwy 52 interchange, and another nice one - Pine Needles -- in Racine, 10 miles or so south of Stewartville.

Canadian Honker is a very nice, reasonably priced family-type restaurant. Grandma's Kitchen is more of a diner-type place. Zorba's is great if you like Greek food. For pizza, I recommend Mr. Pizza, O'Neill's, or Bilotti's. Canadian Honker, Zorba's, and Bilotti's have outdoor tables; I'm not sure about the others.

Rochester is also hosting the Minnesota Quilt Show at the Civic Center June 26-28. This is the largest all-volunteer quilt show in the U.S. Details of the show at This is also Rochesterfest week, so Taste of Rochester -- a couple blocks of food vendors -- will be running just outside the Civic Center. Minneapolis/ St. Paul are about 75-80 miles north on Highway 52.

While at Mt. Rushmore, there is a neat quilt shop in Hill City, also one in Rapid City. You MUST make motel reservations. Our DS lives in Rapid City and we are about to head out in a couple of weeks. We stay at all Motel 6, as we also have our QI. Lots of beautiful parks in Rapid City. Have fun and be safe Lyn

Obviously I didn't have enough coffee when I wrote this!!!! My DH knows I'm directionaly challenged! lol Good thing I have him around and the GPS unit. lol
