Hello Again!

Hello gals...it's been a long while since I've posted to the group, but I still see some familiar names. :) "Life" forced me to push my quilting interests aside for a while, and I even sold my modest stash. :(

However, I'm going to be a grandma for the first time come the end of August and, of course, I want to make my grandSON a quilt. :-) I'm so excited.

With not much time before my daughter's due date, I wondered if any of you could recommend an easy (preferably paper pieced) and quick-to-put-together pattern that you'd be willing to share? Or, does anyone have any good pattern sites bookmarked?

Thanks in advance if you can help; I hope to pop in often to catch up and, no doubt, to ask for advice. :)

why paper piecing? are you looking for something complicated? A few EASY ideas I've used for baby quilts include:

Rail Fence -- straight line quilting.... and if done in 2 colors only looks very complicated! but use as many colors as you'd like here is a picture of a rail fence quilt:

Another quick but striking quilt is done using the 9 patch -- alternated either with a blank block (can do fun little quilting images... letters or bunnies or puppies or whatever) or do a 3 pieced stripe... with inside blank blocks... like this

thosecan be strip pieced and VERY quickly assembled -- but look quite striking! Even simple stars (Thangles make the 1/2 square triangles a cinch -- they are basically paper-pieced) make an adorable baby quilt.

Have fun with the new grandbaby!

Hi Kate and thanks for the great suggestions. I mentioned paper piecing because I find it easier than straight piecing, but I particularly like the 9-patch with rail fence pic you included.

Thanks again!

Hi Nancy! I made a very quick quilt for a cousin's son. I picked up some fabric at JoAnn's with ducks, frogs, dragon flies, etc, all over it, and cut out each character in 4" blocks. The primary colors were green, lavender, and yellow...then I just sashed the blocks with a lavender solid. A quick feather design all over the top with the SM and it was done! No piecing, so it went very quickly, and it turned out really cute.
