Hey Polly

and anyone else that enjoys heirloom work. Wonderful photo of some beautiful work. What did they call it back then?

That is the kind of stitching I loved to do back when we had girls in the family; precious memories. Thank you, Taria. Polly

I can't imagine having that kind of patience--or skill! I'm just in awe at the Martha Pullen stuff.

Martha Pullen was my mentor for many years. My favorite piece of advice from her goes this way: "I have already made all of the mistakes; just do it this way." What a precious teacher she is. Gentle, kind and powerful. Polly

In our family, we call it "Grandma's wedding dress!" We have a similar one she made about 1907. PAT

I noticed that no one has really answered the question.. I think that this is what was called "fancy work", or at least was part of that group. Wonderful example, by the way. but not something I would enjoy doing by hand, for sure.
