Interview with Ricky Tims

Yes there are FAQs. There is also a charter, which as I recall is a bit on the short and vague side. That is sad, because the newsgroup charter is the first line of defense against spam and such, particularly in defining limits for advertising within a group. Upon a time, isps and assorted servers were much more responsive to complaints from big 8 heirarchy groups, of which rec is one. However google has done a lot to kill that, simply by being responsive to nothing, and providing a mask for anybody.

Esablished usenet etiquette allows people to advertise their buisness in a sig line of preferably no more than 4 lines, attached to on topic messages that are no shorter than their sig. That is, or was, regarded as simple courtesy all around.

Directs to an on topic article on an obviously poster owned commercial site have been a bone of contention in every newsgroup I have ever posted in, save for the discordians.

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. :-)

Sorry, I can't help laughing when this subject rears it's ugly head. And so near Christmas! For shame.

Yes, we have an official charter. No, it doesn't address spam. Heck, back in 1996 or whenever this group joined the .rec heirarchy, spam wasn't really an issue in our little quilting world.

People, relax, have a treat of your favorite sort, learn to hit the delete button and have some fun quilting.

Don't get all worked up about this. Honestly, we are so darn inconsistent as a group on the subject that all we end up with is a flame war and we lose more fun group members that way.
