1012 RE Amsterdam the girls who own and run the shop are fun - they like brighter colours and make fun small kits - say Hi to them from me as we were in a class together a few years ago and catch up at every show we are both at (NAYY - friends yes - do I get something for sending people? no)and conveniently right next door: Den Haan en Wagenmakers Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 97-99
1012 RE Amsterdam they make repro chintzes and sell them here .and in the northern part of Amsterdam a new to me shop - never been and haven't done business with them: Quilthoek de Bricoleur Ankerplaats 28

OY -- Jessamy, where were you when I was in Amsterdam in 2001 (went with DH who was attending the ASME gathering that year)???? I couldn't find a quilt shop to save me and I even asked the kind young ladies at the front desk to look in the phone book and all of the touristy literature available! I did manage to find a very nice needlework shop and spent way too much money there :-)! I took a day trip out to the touristy areas and bought some really nice fabrics at a one of the huge outdoor Market's in one of the small towns we stopped in. It might have been Edam (that's the name of the famous cheese town IIRC) but I'm not sure. Speaking of that day trip, we stopped in a touristy area that had three lovely windmills and included a small "town" that had been turned into shops -- all sorts of shops, even one that made wooden shoes by hand. It was absolutely wonderful!! There was an elderly Japanese couple on the tour and the husband was the only one who "spoke" English. The poor dear was having trouble understanding English spoken with a Dutch accent :-) so I ended up translating the locally spoken English into American accented English which he more easily understood (due to television programs I am sure). The woman needed to use the rest room and was baffled by the need to purchase a coin to be used in the door to the individual commode. I took her hand, led her to the rest room and had her do what I did and we managed quite nicely. They stuck to me like glue for the rest of the trip and it was a much more enjoyable tour for it :-).
