Jinny Beyer

Ok, so I was lucky enough to meet Jinny at her shop when I went on a shop hop with a friend a few months ago. I was actually excited to be in the presence of "celebrity" and was probably a bit shell shocked without even realizing it. I shopped, I spent too much money, I chatted briefly with Jinny and her worker bees. It was really nice and the fabrics were beautiful.

Now, tomorrow, is going to be another story. I'm heading back over to Jinny's shop to take a hand-piecing class. We will be working on Mariner's Compass' that Jinny designed for our shop hop! I think I hit five or six shops and got patterns from all of them. I was going to go to a closer shop and take a class on putting them together by machine, but opted for Jinny's hand-piecing instead! I'm so totally psyched that I have already packed all of my supplies and checked them at least twice!

Yippee! I cannot wait to share photos of my progress on this one!

I'm jealous! I've always admired Jinny's work and would love to take a hand-piecing class from her. I think if I could ever hand-piece as quickly as she does, I probably wouldn't machine piece at all! I can't wait to hear how it goes. Is it a one-day class or several sessions?

Jinny gave a talk here a few years ago. She is as gracious as she is talented. She is also a very speedy hand piecer. I think she can sew as fast as (or faster than) a machine piecer! Have fun in the class.

Louise,

It's just a one day session. I don't think I could stand to drive back and forth for multiple sessions! I'm not much for travel, and her shop is nearly an hour away from me. If it's more than 20 minutes, it drives me nuts!

Pat,

I actually started hand piecing some quilts after reading my way through Jinny's hand piecing and quilting book. So I'm super excited to be taking a class at her shop, and I'm not sure who the teacher is going to be, but I'm hoping it will be Jinny herself!

She is very gracious. I attended one of her garden parties one year. It was great fun, she gave guided garden tours. The lunch included her hot pepper jelly, the bowl had to be filled many times. It's an hour plus for me to get to Great Falls, VA, where her shop and home are. Finding the shop in that shopping group area was not fun, but the shop was fun. I wouldn't want to go there in this weather. Snowed six inches here and there yesterday. Bonnie, in Middletown, VA
