Motzarella users...

Well, if this goes through, then I got it right.

Menu(tools->accounts) Select 'add newsgroup account'

The server is news.motzarella.org, you need to 'use authentication', and enter the username and password from motzarella (they should have sent you and e-mail).

After that, right click on the account and select 'newsgroups' to add newsgroups.

As far as I can tell -- I have everything set up okay. But the only newsgroups I can get are the motzarella and posenet ...

The FAQ on the motz... website isn't any help. I get an error that says unable to connect to server. But I can log into the motzarella site -- so I know I have the name and password correct. I'm stumped...

PS -- 119 is port setting

When you do an 'account add newsgroup, you have to check 'my news server always requires me to login'. Did you check that box?

Yep -- it's checked. When I go to download the newsgroups -- at first I see only the motzarella and posenet. So I click on RESET newsgroups -- and it acts like it wants to download them... but then I get an "unable to connect to server" error.

NNTP 119

Nothing else entered or checked.

Does your internet provider provide newsgroup access? If not you will need to subscribe to a newsgroup server, and set that up (sorry if you already said you have done this).

Mine has NO check in 'Login using' under the server tab, otherwise it looks like mine.

I don't use that server, but do see that they have a FAQ at:

It seems like your settings are probably correct, but it may not have actually updated them and actually used the new settings. I'm using Thunderbird, not OE, but it's very similar, I forgot to check the always login and though I tried to refresh it didn't work. I just deleted the account and started over (I mean delete the instance of it OE is using not delete your whole motzarella account and get a new one) and it worked. That's not how it's supposed to work, it's supposed to reset or refresh, but it didn't and I don't know if that's a Thunderbird error, or something deeper, if it's deeper it could be affecting you too.

I'd also try it with your email address as you gave it to motzarella, I can't find it written that they require it to match, but if you do it with it matching you can always go back and change it once you are sorted, but before actually posting.

Kate, Try unchecking just the 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication' box. Click Apply if needed. Close down OE then reopen it.

Kate under the GENERAL tab, I think you have to put your real email address in the first block (rather than putting a modified email there) and your modified email in the "reply address" block. When I initially signed up, I think that's what I had to do to get connected to newsgroups.

I was comcast... and lost it last week. I've joined motzarella -- but have been having difficulty tweaking settings....

I had to join using the same user name and password as I use for my mail server and then everything worked ok. I had to email Motzarella and have them delete my account so I could join with the same user name.
