Marie is here!

Hi Mirjam: I'm here.....but I wonder if many people see me or not. I posted 3 subjects the other night and only got one reply.....and another posting must have gone to cyber space LOL. I've just been very bust at work and at home........but I have finished a pair of socks made with the space dyed, self striping yarn, they are soooo cool looking! I went out and bought more of that yarn in different colors. Finished a few cross stitch projects, mainly tee shirts with embroidery on them and a tote bag for my sister. Things should be calming down here in about 3 more weeks so you'll be seeing more of me! Have a good day, Marie and the cats

Hi Marie! good to see you! ...and, as you see, I SEE you! April 29. there was 3 mails from you on MY reader (News Individual Net). Because of my provider, I can READ others, but I don't show up if I SEND on my Outlook Express. (therefore I changed to NIN)

I checked If YOU showed up on my OE. We have to ask the others, because your last mail on MY OE was april 18. about afghan for Stellas' sister. But it can be a delay on MY OE , so may be everything is OK! If it see the mails later here, I will let you know! AUD ;-)

Hi Marie - I see you on Google. I am doing a pair of those socks too - have finished one and am on the gusset of the other. Fund to do. I am knitting with Fresco - a tape yarn - which I haven't used before. It is going ok. (I think it is now discontinued, though). Have you seen the 100% bamboo yarn? Hmm. Last night I found a new LYS when we took DS#2 and his girl friend out for dinner. Walked by and did some window shopping. DS#2 said - "here is a good store for getting Mother presents." Like the way that boy thinks. Judy

Hello, Marie. I just looked back and found I got 3 posts (using OE) from you recently. One was about glow in the dark yarn and I did not respond because I have never seen it anywhere. Did you find it yet? If not, you might want to repost.

Hi Judy,

I'm using Southwest Trading Company's Bamboo yarn right now for the Clapotis shawl. It is really nice to work with and I love the drape of the resulting fabric. The only complaint I have is that there have been 4 or 5 breaks in the skein I'm working with right now. But otherwise I would definitely recommend it!

Hope you get a wonderful Mother's Day gift :)

Aud promissed to take it easy.....So Aud how did it go, is it early to bed tonight....Being busy may also speed up healing as well, you do get very little time, while caring for children about anything else.

Funnily enough I've just started knitting a shrug for DD2's birthday present in Bamboo, in a gorgeous blue/green/yellow mixture called Parrot. It's going to be lovely I think, as the drape of the fabric is really nice. I've done the 2 sleeves (almost) and it's looking good. It does feel very odd to be knitting bamboo fibre using bamboo needles though! I've only found 1 break in the first ball I've used and I fixed that with a Russian join right by the side seam which was lucky. I'm certainly enjoying working with it, which is just as well 'cos I wouldn't usually spend that much on a yarn, but I think it'll be worth it. I hope she like it, shrugs seem to be all the rage here right now Love Christine

PS it's a Bank Holiday here today, and we watched Wallace and Gromit and The Close Shave this morning on the TV. Watching Gromit knit, Wallace falling in love with Wendolene, the knitting shop owner, and seeing Shaun the sheep in his little sweater just made my day. And then we saw Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy at the cinema this afternoon, what a lazy day (except for cooking and ironing!!)

Thabks everyone! Good to know that I am seen......still trying to get used to this computer, but that is hard to do with everyone else around here enjoying this new toy lol..... I've seen the bamboo yarn in the stores, there are some lovely colors and it feels soft. Looks like it has a nice drape and would feel good on the skin. I am very into natural things. I'm so glad you're feeling better Aud, I know surgery is NO fun.....best to take it easy for a while and let nature do her thing. Stop and rest when you feel tired, don't push yourself and you will heal quicker. But I'm sure you're already doing that! :) I helped my sister and nephew move into their new apartment yesterday....a lot of work but looks like it will all work out fine. Went out in my back garden yesterday and saw that I have several small green tomatoes on my plant, beef steak ones. Great for salads or eating sliced with a little salt and mayo or sprinkle of salad dressing, yummmmm. Also enjoying the pair of Annas hummingbirds that nest near my yard. They have the bright green shiny breasts, so pretty. Thats about all thats new, going to try to get through this Mothers Day holiday at work (I'm a floral manager), then through DS2s graduation in 2 weeks, then I'll have time to plan out some new projects! Have a good day everyone, glad to see eveyone. Marie and the cats

Well, I really TOOK it easy! But I was so tired and sleepy(!!) when I came home, that I understood I was not in "tipp-topp" shape yet. BUT today is my weekly day off, and thursday and friday everybody have das off this week. So two working days this week, was a good way to start!

It was OK to start, I think, I can plan a bit better in my head. And my collegues were so sweet!! The children ran towards me when I came, they feel safer when everything is back to normal!

All in all, an OKstart, I feel! AUD ;-))

Christine, you will have to let me know if you find any more breaks in your Bamboo yarn. I only had 2 in the entire first skein but this second one has had 6 so far which seems a bit much. Does anyone think I am being unreasonable? I feel bad because I bugged my LYS owner every week for 2 months about whether the yarn had come in and now I'm just complaining about it! I am sure your DD will like the shrug - that Parrot is a wonderful color! I am using Tequila which has a rather unfortunate name, IMHO, but is a nice mix of pinks and oranges.

I love Wallace and Gromit! We actually have "A Close Shave" on video, one of very few tapes we own. I haven't watched it in years but I will have to take it out to watch again as I'm sure I will have a very different appreciation of it now that I knit!

So far Laura I've only found one break per ball, and I'm on the 2nd front,

3rd ball. The pattern is Iris from Rowan book 35 if you want to find it. I suppose it's more a bolero than a shrug, and it does up with either a piece of leather thong or a brooch. I found the most gorgeous brooch in the local art gallery (of all places) It's a butterfly made of sequins and beads sewn on to net type material. Lovely and light and it picks up the greens and greys just beautifully. We were on our way down to the village to vote in the General Election, and popped in on the off chance, weren't we lucky? I've found the Bamboo yarn good to work with, and I'm glad I didn't have the problems you had, I think I'd let the yarn store know and find out if it's a faulty batch. Gives them a chance to put it right. And that is a lovely colour combo too. I've now got to be brave and work out how to press it , can't find instructions anywhere. Anyone got any experience? Love Christine

I'm not Marie Mirjam, but I just finished and wrapped the shrug for DD2's birthday that I made from Bamboo yarn. I'm really happy with it, it feels like a cross between cotton and linen, with a lovely drape to it. When I was pressing it I wet it and pressed as for cotton (my iron doesn't have setting for bamboo!) and it worked beautifully. I did take photos and when I can work out how to put them somewhere I will. It was quite expensive at almost £9 a ball, and I used 3, so not quite £30(about $56 US; 240 ILS) for the whole smallish garment, but just that bit special. I want to try the SoySilk yarn made from soy proteins next to see how that works out Love Christine
