Hi Mirjam: I'm here.....but I wonder if many people see me or not. Iposted 3 subjects the other night and only got one reply.....andanother posting must have gone to cyber space LOL. I've just been very bust at work and at home........but I havefinished a pair of socks made with the space dyed, self striping yarn,they are soooo cool looking! I went out and bought more of that yarnin different colors. Finished a few cross stitch projects, mainly teeshirts with embroidery on them and a tote bag for my sister. Things should be calming down here in about 3 more weeks so you'llbe seeing more of me! Have a good day, Marie and the cats

Ah, thanks for the reminder Christine! I meant to reply to Mirjam yesterday but it completely slipped my mind.

Mirjam, I emailed the makers of the Bamboo yarn I just used and this is what they had to say:

"We recommend hand washing the Bamboo and then laying it flat to dry. To block your garment, just spray the bamboo down and lay it out. We do not recommend ironing."

So that is what I did. It feels dry at this point but the strange thing is that the color seems a little darker where I sprayed it more heavily (along the edges and corners). So I'm letting it rest on the blocking board until I need to move it on Friday. It was a little less expensive than the yarn Christine bought, $15 for each skein. I also used 3 skeins for a total of $45 with a good bit left over. It is lovely yarn though, and I can't wait to wear my shawl this weekend!

Hey, you are paying WAY too much for bamboo - I know I am not supposed to advertise, but there is a web site that sells bamboo for under US$6.00 per ball - best Italian made at that. By the way, it knits and drapes beautifully, more like silk I would say.

Thanks for the heads-up! I think I found the yarn you're talking about on your website. Those skeins are only 109 yards and the one I used is 250 yds so the price ends up being pretty close. I know my LYS isn't the cheapest but I was hoping it wasn't THAT far off! And I'm happy to pay a little extra to keep her in business since it's so convenient and such a nice store. I spend so much time there I just see that little extra as my share of the rent ;)

You are right that the bamboo drapes beautifully. And it seems to knit up really fast as well. I do like the colors of the bamboo yarn on your site - the yarn I used was similar to the Salerno. There are some other colors I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to resist but I will have to think of a very special project to use them with!

Thanks for bringing that to my attention Roger. The next time I order from Yarn Forward (shouldn't be too long; I'm easily tempted by yarn!) I'll have to add some to the list. I needed the yarn I bought from an online supplier in the UK quite quickly, and only that, so the postage and distance were an issue. The yarn you have is just a little less expensive since the price I quoted was for balls of 100g, with 250 yds each. Still I will probably try the Italian yarn at some point. Just not for a large blanket! Love Christine
