Maybe try with the Minkee on the bottom. And use a zig zag stitch.

I love MInkee, but the worse part of it is the mess after cutting. I watched my friend struggle with billions of floating minkees all over her sewing room and figured there had to be an easier way. I gently cut with a rotary cutter, then take all of the cut pieces outside and shake the heck out of it, I mean really snap it hard to release the loose minkees on the cut edges. I then had absolutely no minkee dust in my sewing room and it was easy to deal with.

I wasn't trying to sew lots of cut pieces together, I used it as a one piece backing. It's slippery and tends to stretch, I loosened my presser foot to diminish the stretching, pinned a lot, and sometimes I use a walking foot, but not always.

My sister-in-law told me Saturday that whenever she puts the new baby down for a nap on the minkee blanket, her slightly older sister crawls on it too and they sleep together. When I gave it to them a couple of weeks ago, the older girl confiscated it and layed it out on the couch, crawled onto it and patted it like a kitten.

Thanks for the tips, Denise. It really does sound like something I'd really like to try. Went to JoAnn's earlier this evenin' (need magazines for the road trip tomorrow - and for waitin' in the doc's office) and didn't see ANY minkee. I think I'll end up having to order it online?

Can you quilt through it - or that a stupid question??? I'm assuming the answer is "no" - since I have a feeling that the seams would be too bulky at the least. And does it play nice with other fabrics? Specifically quilter's cotton? Or would flannel be a better choice?

I want to try it especially 'cause everyone says how cuddly it is - since it's for preemies that I'm thinking of using it for, that's a HUGE plus! For some reason, I've just been gravitatin' towards baby quilts ...???

Thanks again, Denise!! :)
