Too bright? Oh mercy, no! I think it is a very happy quilt. It is possible to make one that is too bright. I made one in fabrics my Florida sister chose - a loud blue and orange. Never been a need to turn the lights on in that room. Nice try, Roberta, but we are all wise to you. Polly

Oh, Fay, it's so pretty. looks almost like a "Turning Twenty" pattern. i love the purple, and Roberta's right, it needs a border or two. put a light border first to set the center and a darker border to frame it. i like borders with cornerstone blocks. even if the corners are a contrasting color to the border color. ditto on sending it here if you arent happy with it!! =D

Fay: Sure, it IS bright, but so what? Bright and cheerful quilts are often just the ticket when one is ill, or the rain is oppressive, and so on .... or for no reason at all. Somber or neutral quilts have a place, and so do bright and busy.
I like that you have included some green patches and would like to suggest you use that tone of green for the binding. Cheers, PAT in VA/USA
Fay, I really like the colors in this quilt. I think that when we stick to same ole same ole that is what people expect. I just went out of the box and am working on a quilt that people just "look at". It is being made with 9 separate flowers made from Bali. I got fabric with lime, raspberry, blues etc. Then around each 5 x 5 flower square is bordered in Bali LIME green. Yup it is bright. It actually makes me smile. It sort of looks Hawaiian. Dana
Well, purple is not my favorite color, but I really, really like your purple quilt & it doesn't look too bright to me at all. Actually the colors look more pastel than too bright. Someone is going to love being the recipient of that quilt. Maybe this is the beginning of your moving into brighter colors?

It reminded me of a turning twenty, which is a pattern I've never liked, something to do with there being nowhere for the eyes to rest or something. But colourswise it's not too bright, it's got a good mix of light and dark and big pattern small pattern, it's not being fond of the look that turning twenty type patterns give that stops me from singing it's praises, but I could well imagine the same fabrics in a pattern I like - you might want to find out from your family whether it's the colour or the design they dislike, if we don't think about it we tend to look at colour first and dislike a colour whereas if the design tickles our fancy we notice the colours less as long as they have the right amount of contrast between them.

Well you see it is a long story about that not quilting business.... well ok, not that long actually. Renovated the upstairs bathroom and what used to be my daughters room. Sewing room is upstairs along with master bedroom... where you gonna put all the junk for renos? where you gonna put all the extra pieces? where did all the boxes from the sink and bits go? where are all the painting supplies so they are handy? the tools? the ladders??? Yup. The sewing room. Yup, most of it still there. However, the renos are almost complete and pieces and junk are slowly going where they belong! I am almost starting to get excited now LOL

Oh yes, and Charley, my "magnificent QI" is a very thorough inspector. I can't take a quilt picture without him trying to get in it. :-)
Well since you were good enough to renovate your daughter's room, it's only fai that she should hang on to the detritus for you... When she's out, get a couple of friends in and move it all in there! You'll probably get a fair bit under the bed and in the cupboard before she notices...
