Aw, yuk. I'm sorry the humidity's wreaking havoc with your health.

I can sympathize with your allergies - when I was a youngun, I was allergic to durn nigh everything (grass, pollen - rather, air, animals, metal, bee stings, the list goes on ...). I had to get allergy shots two to three times a week for about 10 years. Luckily, puberty eased up the allergies - now I'm just allergic to gold, bee stings, and kitties - and the occasional doggie dander.

What allergy med do you use? When I was allergic to everything, a product called "Allerest" (NAYY) was the ONLY thing that worked for me ... 'course, they took it off my local market about 4 years ago (Pretty sure that Benedryl is paying the stores off!!). If ya'll still have that and haven't tried it, I'd suggest it ... does a great job and doesn't leave you all ... dopey. That is, of course, if you haven't already tried it. Different meds work differently for different people, of course.

We use Claritin now (NAYY, of course), and it works as long as you take it early enough. If you wait 'til you've got hives, rash or redness, it's too late. : /

I guess I don't really think of Canada as being humid ... but then, I don't remember the summers in VA as being overly hot, either. Memory's a wonderful thing for editing the past, isn't it?

Jenn..i'm in central NY not far from you probly, and it is VERY humid here, and 92degrees F. just aweful. glad i have airconditioning at work,car and home! stay inside and sip iced-tea! of course a little vodka in it helps too! Many newer homes in this area have closets that large. Of course, many are the same homes caught in the sub-prime mortgage loans debacle w/ accompanying foreclosures that has caught up w/ the real estate market. When I see these big houses w/ 5 or 6 bedrooms, 2 or 3 living areas, huge closets, 4 bathrooms, rec room, 3rd garage, dream kitchen, I always think : Quilt Retreat! (like Elm Creek )

Hi Connie, my allergies are all the chemical kind: auto exhaust, rubber, synthetics, moulds (all of them - including rain), and the list goes on and is still changing. A dermatologist took me off the benedryl because it was reacting with an anti-inflammatory that I was taking - the details were not pleasant but suffice to say that I was an itchy strawberry allover! I never had any allergies while growing up so it was a surprise to me when chemicals in the workplace and my reactions to them forced me into disability retirement 16years ago. This year, I am reacting to red items (tomatoes, red peppers, etc, wine), my thyroid meds, some yellow foods and orange ones. I can never remember the name of the prescription antihistamine that I started using several years ago - I did find a smaller dosage that only puts me to sleep for a couple of hours - this is enough to help me through particularly bad days and nights. Suffice to say, that every day is an adventure and I do spend a lot of days indoors - I have only been down to the mail room twice this week - one neighbour was about to get into the elevator with me, she said that she would wait for the next one because she was wearing perfume and she knew that I have problems with scents - I thanked her.... I am grateful that I can still sew on a good day, that I have the computer to play with and that I have been enjoying a summer of excellent tennis on tv. jennellh
