Ot another request.

I feel like maybe I'm going to the well too often. But since you all have sent such good vibes and prayers that have pulled me through various situations....I need you now! Wednesday night my 24 yo DD was playing softball. She plays second base in a co-ed D league...very non competitive. Or it's supposed to be. A guy was trying to stretch a single into a double and she received the ball from center field and tried to put the tag on him. He slid into her and immediately I could tell something was wrong. Both bones in her lower leg were snapped and she was in agony. She had surgery later that night and they put a rod in her tibia. She's still in the hospital and has been in significant pain. Could I humbly ask for your thoughts/prayers/good wishes for a complete and speedy recovery? There is some concern there might be some nerve involvement...but it's all so swollen its hard to know yet. This all sucks for her. In less than a month she will have to start rehearsals for her high school marching band. Her boyfriend (whom we've discovered is a rock solid guy) had also planned a great trip to Chicago for her birthday. It's going to be a struggle going to an amusement park (yeah, right), the theatre and a Cubs game while on crutches. Though it might not be impossible. We'll just have to see. Thanks again. It's been a wild three days. I stayed up all through the first night and came home late last night. I'm heading to bed now.

Good grief, don't feel like you're asking too much. Sometimes we need to. Young folks bounce back so quickly. And your daughter sounds like a very active young woman, that is definitely in her favor. Prayers offered for a speedy recovery and for pain management.

Oh that's horrible Kathyl, I'm so sorry. I really do hope that she makes a complete recovery. There are some very nippy wheelchairs, if she does want to go on an outing. Let's hope that, when the swelling goes down, they'll be able to make her more mobile. Hope you feel better after your sleep - if you managed to get some hours. . In message , KJ writes

So sorry to hear of the accident Kathyl - I didn't know guys and gals play in the same game. I hope she recovers really quickly and that you are able to manage the caring side of it - as I'm sure you will! Hugs and good wishes Bronnie

Now that's enough to turn your hair white overnight, Kathyl. The real trial is going to be keeping her off that leg until the drs think it's okay to be up and going. We'll be holding you close. Polly

Good thoughts and well wishes for a speedy recovery for your daughter. Almost the exact same thing happened to my husband when he was her age. Except for where the rods were sticking out of the leg for many months, there is no nerve damage. In those 4 spots there is numbness. It did require 2 surgeries, one to set the leg, and one to remove the rods. He was also on crutches for 6 months and physical therapy for a few more months after that. It is important, once on crutches to be up and about as much as possible. It does help with the recovery.

Geeze Kathyl - that's awful! Didn't realize softball was a contact sport!! Best wishes for a rapid recovery for your DD, and hopefully she can still manage to enjoy at least SOME of the summer activities she had planned. Keep us updated, and try to get some rest.

Kathyl, that's just *awful*! Why do people have to make something that's supposed to be fun into a trial by terror? I really hope things aren't as bad as you're fearing and that your DD will be up and about very quickly.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her. Its horrible when your child is in pain and there is nothing you can do for them. My DS (23 months) fell on Weds and broke both bones in his arm, he was lucky the drs eventually decided not to give him an anesthetic - they say that his arm will straighten out with time. It hasn't slowed him down any, he's still climbing everything he can see, and is currently trying to do forward rolls!

I'm piggybacking. Thanks to you all for your prayers and supportive thoughts. DD went home from the hospital yesterday and is just starting to get a bit more comfortable. It's going to be a long haul on crutches. Teaching marching band outside in just a few weeks will certainly be a challenge. I think I may have to be her escort, just for my piece of mind. won't she love that??? Thanks again to you all. This group is the BEST!

Thanks Karen. It's one day at a time right now. But she is back at her house with her wonderful boyfriend taking care of her. He's out "Mom-ing" me!!! When I told him that he asked if he should back off. Isn't that sweet? He'll have to go back to work mid-week, so I'll take over some of the fussing then. They were supposed to be visiting his parents at a cabin this weekend so he had several days off. Thanks again for your many prayers. We do appreciate it!
