Re: I'm so d*MNED pissed I feel like quitting!!!!

I don't think I ever got mad when turning.

What exactly are you doing to these blanks? How are you drilling them?

Yes... it definately was one of those days... Sorry for spouting... each blank cost $$$$$$ Today every blank was fine. You are very correct on how different each material must be approached..... the resin impregnated wood makes for what I... and those who've bought my expensive pens... feel is the best looking result. The impregnated resin gets very hot during drilling so you have to slow the drill down (both spin and cut) and withdraw a lot. It's also extremely brittle during turning so you have to have a very light touch and the sharpest edge... no automatic machine turning with this stuff. The mutli-colored composite wood gets even hotter and even more brittle. There is definately less stress in turning self-blanked woods... but the resin impregnated wood makes pens which sell for much more.

Anybody know how to make res>

Hi,

Let's start with what are you using to round your wood? What lathe do you have?

I'm not trying to be a pain but I usually have no problems. If I do, it's because I dug too deep twith the gouge or was going too deep wit the skew chisel. I have had cracking at the ends but put on CA and it's OK. If it's the top I usually cover it with the pen clip. I also get spare tubes and cut thenm to size so if I screw up, i just start again. I have the biggest problem with acrylic but now I think it's because I used the wrong drill bit.

Anyways, good luck and let me know the answers above and maybe I can help.
