OT.....but would apply to Press n Seal...

I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end". Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.

I'm sharing this with my friends that did not know this. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.

LOL! Don't feel bad, kitchen wrap boxes in Germany seem to lack this amenity. Most people either buy a wall-mounted dispenser, or (like me) a generic plastic tube/box with a cutting edge that holds any kind of foil or plastic wrap. Roberta in D

I was so excited when I read this! Had to go directly to all my wrap boxes and check it out, but I don't see any little tabs :( Guess this little invention doesn't apply to Canadian boxes?? The Press & Seal box has the roller actually mounted in the box so it won't come out. I would probably have to destroy the box to get it out.

Don't feel bad, Marilyn. I live in the US, and none of my boxes of various kinds of wraps have the little tabs, either. :S

Oh that's right. Press and Seal does have the little roller thingy. I was trying to make it "on topic".

Gee....all of mine did Sandy. I had to go check. So I spent a few seconds pushing them all in. I wonder if it will make any difference.

I had to go look at my foil and wrap boxes - and guess what I found! Yep, those little tabs on each end. I don't think I ever noticed them before (although someone - but not me - had pushed the tabs in on the box of plastic wrap). I guess you really DO learn something new every day!

I just ran over to my basket of foil and plastic wrap and yup, there it is. It's amazing what we don't see that's staring us right in the face. My older aluminum foil didn't have the side tabs, but the plastic wrap does. Who knew??

I did check, and - the cling film roll has the tabs! The foil doesn't, but I'll keep an eye on progress! (What made me even more pleased was that my DH hadn't ever noticed the tabs, either; but then, of course, he went on to say that he has never had a roll of anything fall out of its box, when he's been using them >ggKathyl: You are not the only one.
