OT: Catching UP

Despite not having posted in quite some time, I have been able to read the group every now and then and see what everyone is up to.

Without going into all the boring details, there have been many changes in my life in the past few months. I have sold my beloved "Murphy's Paw" in Seattle, my house is currently up for sale, and 2 weeks ago, I loaded up the dogs and everything I could cram into my PT Cruiser, and made a 3,158 trek, cross-country. My brother flew out and helped me make the drive, and it took us 4 1/2 days. Didn't much care for South Dakota - loved Kentucky. I am now living in a rental house in Tampa, Florida, and looking for work. The humidity, as well as the blasted mosquitoes, are taking some getting used to, but we're hanging tough. Not much caring for this rental, besides the fact that almost all of my earthly possessions (including SM) are in storage. Don't even have a TV! Kinda like camping, only in a house. And I really don't understand how the "rainy season" can be in the summer! Anyway, my first 2 weeks have been interesting, but - we're always up for a challenge. OH! The dogs are now on meds for "Heartworm" which my vet in Seattle advised me to do, before we even left. What, oh what, are mosquitoes good for anyway???

Glad to see that most everyone is doing well.............. I hope to "pop in" more often, now that I'm not working all the time.

Patti, dear friend, WELCOME home to rctq! You have been missed. I wish you all the luck in the world in finding a job and settling happily into your new life. Here's hoping the Seattle house sells quickly for mucho bucks and you can get your 'stuff' back with you. The HairyButt Gang sends sloppy doggy-breath kisses to you and Kaz and Murphy.

How brave you are! I made the same sort of trek, from Minnesota to Arizona, but alone. Scared to death all the way. I admire you very much, not least of all for enduring the humidity in Florida. I understand it's a lovely place to live, so good luck and I hope you find a better rental soon!

Awwwwwwww Patti, I'm glad to hear from you and hope that you're well, despite all the sudden upheavals.

Come back when you can, and we really do care about you and don't mind at all hearing the "boring details." Remember, you're one of us. And that's pretty special. :)

As for mosquitoes....... I swear I have no idea what use the things are. Dastardly devils that cause nothing but pain, disease and misery. I grew up in Texas and we had tons of mosquitoes. But when we went to the coast for vacations, the mosquitoes there were twice the size of our inland pests. My grandmother called those giant mosquitoes "gallon nippers" and I could believe that was true.

Get a giant bottle of deet for you. See if there is any repellent you can put on the fuzzy ones. And get a net to sleep under. It'll keep the cockroaches out, too.

Hugs, Sunny (who wouldn't live in the South again for love nor money)

Hi Patti. Glad to hear from you and the move went well. Was thinking of trying to contact you as DH and I will be in Seattle at the end of Oct.for a family wedding. Not to be though. Good luck with everything in your new life and hope you can get your hands on SM very soon.

what an adventure! I'm surprised there aren't mosquitos in Seattle - what gives? I thought that with all your rain they would love that part of the country.

I hope and pray that you find your niche in muggy FL - the first time I went there as a child, I got sick from the humidity, having grown up in dry Cheyenne.

Alice, I would LOVE to have a cuppa with you when you're here!! I currently live just a nano-second away from the airport and Dale Mabry Ave. Not sure that will be so in October, but email me when time gets closer, and we'll set something up, okay??

I think it's just too cold for skeeters in Seattle......... and no humidity. I drove through Wyoming on my way to Florida...... would have loved to stop and see some of the sights there, but it wasn't exactly a pleasure trip. Maybe next time.......

We'll be heading south near the end of October. We're in Zephyrhills, about

40 min from Tampa - so a meet-up is in order!

Patti! Soo good to hear from you. Had your first taste of tropical storms already! But fall is on the way, I saw goldenrod starting to bloom the other day so you can experience a weird Florida winter. Year-round heartworm preventative is teh way to go around here, even for cats should you acquire one at some point. Florida's rainy season is summer, wontrs tend to be dry-ish, though the occasional rain in the cooler months is not unknown. If you're ever passing my way, give me a shout, I'd love to meet up sometime! Hope everything continues smoothly, Hugs, Debi

Up here in Maine there's an old-timer's prediction.... "From the first blossoms of the goldenrod to the first frost is SIX weeks! Well, we've only got 3 weeks to go!! Why did the summer go by soooo fast????
