OT: cherry recipes please

How I wished I lived near you. I love Rainier cherries. I have just paid 3.99 for 200 grams of red cherries from France. I envy you.

Ranier cherries are a delicacy in my house. I often have to pay $5-6 per = pound. Simon is so cute with his cherries. He learned to chew off the pul= p and spit out the pit! And the pits are clean as a whistle, too. In ca= se you don't know Simon is the leader of The HairyButt Gang- a dog. A very= clever dog who didn't like the 'rocks' inside his fruit so he did somethin= g about it. VBG

I'm so happy to hear from you, Leslie. The tv news of Joplin are terrifying. As to spitting out, Yogi thinks he's the Official Food taster. If all I'm eating is a green salad and share a bite with him, he is really quick to spit it out. Green salads are Not fit for dogs. He's sure. Polly

My dogs eat salad all the time. If mommy eats it then they eat it. Righ= t now I have a half watermelon in the fridge. They all gather every time = I open the fridge door- sniffing the watermelon's 'fragrance'- just waiting= for me to cut off a big hunk and share it with them. I have the silliest= dogs!

The weather has been wild! We've had very strong winds and heavy rain and= spent most of yesterday evening under a strong storm and tornado warning. = No damage other than a small leak at my chimney- darnnit! Another spot = to patch and paint..... Today is looking to be another wild weather day an= d I have to drive over to West Plains to sign more paperwork.

Me too. I just watched part of the lunchtime news here, and they showed pictures and reported on Joplin. What a fearsome set of storms you have near you at the moment Leslie. Stay safe.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make you all jealous.

To be honest this is the first time these trees have fruited properly since we moved here and we thought that they weren't ripening!!!! Good old Google and Wikipedia!!!

What did we do in the good old days? hehehe

Anyway, bought some cheap white rum yesterday to put them in.

When I lived in the UK, a childhood memory of mine was to buy a 1/4lb of cherries before I got on the bus, to go to my Grandparents house and sitting with them and sharing them - a real treat, but always red/black cherries. You never bought more than 1/4lb, way too expensive.

Mind you, they now taste the sweeter for the memories that I associate them with. I often say to DH that if I had 1 wish, then I would bring my Grandparents back just for 1 day and share my garden with them and ask them how to do stuff out there and how to cook all these "new" foods we find here, cos I know that they were expert on using everything.

Back to stoning cherries. I bought a new stoner last week - I end up cleaner but the kitchen doesn't!!!

Thanks, Kim. I often make sorbet; this one sounds delicious.

Over the years home made ice cream has become a real fun thing to do for family events. I have an old fashioned hand crank machine and also an electric motor one. We didn't have home made ice cream as kids so it has become a new tradition. : ) Costco has the Cusinart machine for around $30. I mentioned it to dd and she ran out the next day and bought it for my mom's day gift. I am having fun with it. A lot easier than the old style machines but not quite as exciting for the little kids. I have a big bag of frozen cherries in the freezer I can bust into when the strawberry patch ever plays out. Yummo!

Your neighborhood was on the weather channel last night RM. Are things ok? I hope there was more talk than actual damage for you guys. Taria

I love the little machine for making sorbet & faux ice milk (almond, soy "milk"). We don't eat ice cream, I don't do dairy foods, anymore. This little Kweeznart is perfect for making a small batch very quickly. D-i-l now brags on the sorbet. And I've decided the cocoa powder is better used in ice milk rather than in those wonderful cookies; no fat, low sugar, & cheap.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, it's been a wonderfully cool day for n.Tx, bracketed by temps in the 90sF. After an intense session of gardening (moving the compost pile, re-setting flagstones, setting up a new garden patch [zucchini], entertaining Stanley Dog), I used the afternoon to straighten a full piles of fabric, put away some quilt idea pictures, file quilt shop receipts (frequent flyer mileage). Found the binding fabric I wanted to use (shopping the stash). "It's all good."

...think there's time for a batch of frozen chocolate almond milk before supper... ;-D

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy - did not mention to Taria yesterday that it was the 25th.. LOL!!!!!
