OT - Firefox

A friend kept raving about Foxfire and I decided to try it just to shut her up.....she was RIGHT! It runs smoothly and, for the failing middle aged mind, it can remember passwords.

Happy quilting,

Finally decided to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Got tired of having to go to Firefox to view things Internet Explorer wouldn't let me see.

Got any tips or advice for me?

Hi Kay,

I, too, use Firefox, and for the very seem reason. I've been very happy with it. Don't have any tips, cuz I haven't had to mess with it. :-)

I was a diehard Netscape fan for years. That was the first browser I started using back in 1994, or whenever it couldn't be called Mosaic anymore. Don't know what made me change to Internet Explorer. I like how fast Firefox loads. the only thing I miss so far from IE7 is that page where I could see miniatures of all the tabs I had open.

Check out the extensions and add ons. I've been using a flashblocker and it's great, there are others such as tiny url maker and too many to mention but check out all mozilla has to offer.

The only "tip" is that occasionally IE is better when you have something to print. I'm thinking specifically of Quilt University where IE doesn't split pictures between two pages like Firefox does. So if a page isn't printing well then try opening the page in IE and trying to print from there. Other than that minor quibble, I definitely prefer Firefox.

And once in a while I find a page that doesn't work well with Firefox and I have to go to IE. Usually I just avoid those sites. Unfortunately, Microsoft is one and sometimes I just can't avoid checking for something there.

I did have to go back to Internet Explorer to print out my TV schedules. Firefox was chopping off the date at 85% scale.

There is a firefox addon that allows you to open pages as IE. It's not always successful but usually works.

If you're using a scroll wheel mouse, if you click the wheel on a link, it will open in another tab. If you don't use a scrollwheel mouse, there is an add on called super DragAndGo that allows you to drag the link onto a blank area of the page and it opens in a new tab.

Ctrl/tab opens a new blank tab.

check out the add ons, extensions and themes

there's so much there. And you're notified of any updates available to the add ons that you install. chris :-)
