OT from Polly - ugly

All day long, the helicopters removing desperately wounded or ill folks fly overhead. I can't explain to you - but someway the Swamp is the helicopter route from New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi and other places to hospitals who have water and electricity and people to help. We lost a Yorkie for a while tonight. The little rascal actually climbed a chain link fence. Yes, he did. We didn't dare go walk through the swamp with flashlights looking for him. There are looters about and gun-carrying residents . . .so we made lots of racket familiar to the naughty Yorkie so he would come to a truck with big loud mufflers. He did. DD1 (the one with 3 feet of mud in their home) had an eye injury that required surgery and was told: don't lift, don't bend, don't get jolted. Yes. Really. But her dear doctor - who doesn't have an office or a house anymore - is working out of a hospital emergency room, tells her her eyesight is 20-20 and will be healed perfectly. Praise God and thank you all for your prayers. We had enough gas to go to an "open" sort-of grocery today and bought a loaf of bread and some eggs. I remember feeling pitiful when all I could only buy what was fat free. Now, I am blessed to buy what I need to sustain. We are surrounded by angels - big and small. My heart is so touched by the wee angels who go to someone's home to take them to a relief center for a hot meal. The family who only saved the clothes on their backs - but somehow set up a tent in front of the slab that was their home - so they could give anybody anything they had. They had lots - truckloads of donations from Everywhere. And more coming in. To Pat in Virginia (who didn't list me as her friend) I will be offended as soon as I get the chance. to Susan whose feelings are wounded - get a grip. For Heaven's sake. I don't give a happy hoot if you used my block for the Hug or to line the bird cage. We have big things to do. To all of you - just one funny. DD2 has * only* a big oak tree- bottom-up in their yard. She wants me to ask you what would be funny to hang in it. I was thinking (with not much thinker left) that a big ...really BIG pair of black lace panties would make people smile. Any suggestions? She thinks you are the most brilliant group in the world and just might have a funnier idea. If you ever needed to trigger just a twitch of a smile - this is it. I love you all dearly. You are my only link to sanity. Hit it with your best shot. Polly

Polly, bless you - you always manage to put things in perspective.

Tell DD2 that a thong might be better - bright pink, lacy and about a size XXXXXXL - yes they do make them, I've seen 'em (thankfully not "on" a body!). Maybe with the matching bra?

A condom -- a great BIG phony condom :-). Maybe one made from an very large plastic bag?? Tacky, I know but, hey -- that's me :-). A lady I ain't and never will be -- LOL! Now, a question for you Miss Polly because you are down there in the thick of things (OOOO BAD pun). I hear from some that anyone with a chain saw, tools and a will to help is welcome. From other sources, the word is to stay away and just send $$ to the charity outfits. Any ideas which is more true? I am sure that the actual physical help is needed but anyone who does show up will likely need to bring their own food, water, lodging (read camp equipment), etc. Money is always a good bet but who knows

*when* it will make it to the folks who actually need it! I would be down there in a a heartbeat but I seriously doubt that my bad back (scoliosis, spondylo"whatzis", sciatica) and arthritic knees would do anyone much good. If folks need sewing or alterations or some such, I'm your woman but I seriously doubt that is high on anyone's list. Heck, I could even clean house -- assuming someone had a house in good enough shape to be cleaned! I'd not e worth a tinker's dam as far as schlepping and debris clean-up is concerned. I'm not sure you know this but the Red Cross is allowing people to keep their pets with them in the evac centers. I am heart broken when I think of all those poor "babies" who have been left behind. What trauma for the families -- to loose all their material possessions and then have to leave their beloved pets behind :-(. I am soooo glad to hear that you have managed to keep your entourage of "guard dogs" together. I bet they help keep the 'gators in their place too :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I second Shar's idea. It would be a hoot.

Getting such a personal narrative from a friend like Polly really does jolt one to put one's life in perspective. Why are we having cross words with anyone in this group? (Retorical Q. pls do not answer )

Love to those I know, good wishes and have a happy day to everyone else.

Given you limited options for getting things to hang in trees, not to mention the heat down there - how about a sign saying

"Free Firewood - byo chainsaw!"

Thanks for keeping such a balanced outlook, and stay safe! Lock up those Yorkies!

Did I ever imagine I'd hear our dear Senator Lott say: take enough gas to get out because they don't have any and get out before dark because they don't have lights? That's how it was . . . but not how it is. We are elevated just minute by minute. (I'm still astounded to have Canadians here. ) We have gas now. We have electricity now. But you can't come help. We have no place for you to sleep, nothing much for you to eat and gas is too, er, umm...not rationed by anyone...but you don't want to take gas from someone who needs it to have running water . . . So many places are sharing the disaster with us. Help them. I touch here with you when I can. Loved the story about the kitty who inspected the asphalt. Loved the blonde joke about planting trees. Don't doubt for a minute that your prayers and contributions are meaningful. They are. And, I do sincerely apoligize for using this group as my personal message board. I know we are about quilting. But we are also about love. It hugs me. Polly

-up is concerned.

Well, you're not alone. I was thinking of condom balloons!

I just knew you could do it! Yes. LOL and I needed to laugh. *I* thought of the condom notion but there are so many preachers around and about that would be offended. (Although they may . . . ah, no. I won't go there.) Our garage and my shop are now neatly piled in, my goodness, the word won't come to my brain . . debris? Our neighbors brought them back home (home is whole, cool but leaky) . That will be a good sign for them. Ah yes. Polly

Panties with a patchwork patch on them? Slogan to go with them, reading GRIN & BARE IT?

Ya gotta laugh or you'd run away screaming... ((((((HUGS)))))) to you all in the swamp.

Big black lace panties and maybe a bra to match? So glad you're doing as well as possible and you and yours are all hanging in.

I saw a scare crow "Mooning" once. His hind end that was showing from his overalls and the "cheeks" were two big pumpkins. It was hilarious!!

Polly darlin:

You are listed in the second, longer list. The first was just to get some needed relief here. There is still another list, but I am keeping it secret for now. More fun that way!! Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;) So, you don't have to get offended over that. Anything else, sure, be my guest. Just don't send the gators after ME!!

FYI. The reason you were not listed the first time .... temporary insanity. If you read my breaking needles thread you know why I was a tad nutty for a while. (ON!! Don't even go there Diana!!) BTW, I know you've all been losing sleep over my stippling problems, so I am happy to say the problem is solved. LOL

Now, what to hang in that tree? How about a red lace brassiere and garter belt, along with the panties!!

Give your DD my very best wishes for healing. I know this is not the time for bed rest, but please tell her *I* want her to follow doctor's orders as much as she is able. Speaking of Hurricane Katrina, we have had relatively good news about our kinfolk's houses. Relatively is the operative word. No word about another group's houses, but they evacuated and are out of touch. Prayers still going for every dear one of y'all.

Hugs,

PAT in VA/USA, who sent you the world's best postcard right before the storm ... if it ever shows up, save it as a symbol of my friendship!!

Ahhh, Pat. I know you love me the best. I was Mama's favorite too. And Teacher's Pet. I think it is my humility that is so charming. Polly

Polly, thinking of you and yours. I can only imagine what all this is like. But I think the lace panties is a good idea but you need to have shocking pink for all to see. Big HUGS to you!
