OT: getting ready to head south

I haven't been doing too much sewing lately, but lots of last minute visiting. My brother and his wife are visiting from China, so we had a lovely 2 day visit with them. Our two sons, along with one fiancee spent the weekend here. We caught up on all the "goings on", played games, ate, watched silly things on TV/movies. My younger son and his fiancee "shopped" in my Christmas boxes for items to decorate their apartment, and also took the small Christmas tree that had belonged to Grandma T. They needed a bigger quilt for their bed, so I let them choose from 4 or 5 that I had in the correct size. They chose the blue and yellow quilt with the stripe border print, along with a few Christmas items that I had made long ago. Since we celebrate Christmas in the south, my decorations hadn't been out in about 10 years!

My future DIL arrived with a sketch of her wedding dress (her sister is an author/artist). My son was worried that he'd see the sketch by accident, so had her carry and store it in a sealed envelope! She wants something simple, and then asked me to make it! Didn't think I'd ever get to do this, as the mother of two boys! We looked through my pattern collection and found a dress pattern that is very close to her sketch. Then we headed out to the fabric store and looked at patterns (good thing we found one here, as there wasn't many to her taste). The fabric selections for bridal at our local Fabricland are dismal, so I'll be checking for fabric over the winter, and sending her samples for approval. Instead of a veil, she wants to have a small cape with hood - this will take a bit of pattern drafting, and also finding the right fabric/sheer/lace. The wedding will be about a month after our return home, so I'll have time to get the dress complete, but that means I'll have to have my outfit finished before we head north!

Susan, DH & I have friends at Zephyrhills, Southpoint Golf Resort and we visit with them maybe once or twice a year (it's a 2 hr drive from where I am.) Maybe things will work out so we might have a short meet up in a few months!
