OT: Hallowee Party - just call me Martha

Well it's that time of the year when DD has her annual Halloween party. The kids all look forward to it. After 3 years it has now become a tradition. Last year some of you posted wonderful recipes such "vulture vomit", which really looked disgusting but was so yummy. Well, I think I'm dealing with a bunch of wimps. No one wanted to try it. So this year, I'm attempting to only serve the boring party stuff but will change the names. I did manage to come up with mummified fingers and grave yard digs. I also had to make my own piñata. Gosh, I wonder how it will stand up to the abuse! Basically this week has been busy running around and planning for this annual party. I have so much cooking and decorating to do for Sat. If you have any creative names for chips, cheetos, carrot sticks etc. please let me know.

Since I cannot make gross looking dishes, I'm getting back at them with the game "guess what's in the bowl". Muhahhahahahahhah!

Can't help much with names but I sure would love to be a fly on the wall for that party lol

We don't "do" Halloween over here like you guys, but I do recall a couple or three riotous Friday 13th parties LOL one involved eating baked wichetty grubs

You didn't say what age group we're dealing with - but I find the notion of frosting cupcakes with crushed Oreos and burying in a 'tasteful' gummy worm or two to be such fun. This week on the Food Network, Paula froze red something (may have been fruit juice) in a plastic glove to use for an ice ring for her punch bowl. It wasn't disgusting or scary, just a little silly. Do you eat oysters?

Should I tell you what I think they look like? rofl

I have tried (but would not by choice eat any more of) snake, crocodile, water buffalo, ants, wichetty grubs, eel, kangaroo, emu, and various assorted "native plant food delicacies". To paraphrase Erasmus, my heart is adventurous, but my stomach is not!

Polly, I'm dealing with 9 years old kids, 5 boys, 6 girsl. Yes, I've done that, I put a daisy in the cup cake with the worm coming out (creates the scene). I will make rice crispy treats shaped in Halloween figures/theme. I do plan on freezing flies in my ice cubes. Last year I made a witch's brew with green and bleu ice cubes that didn't go too well. So what's the use of going all out to make a punch when kids aren't daring! lol So this year I'm buying a bottle of Hawaiian Punch, but I've got to have frozen flies.... muhhahahahahahah!

Pretzel sticks (or carrot/celery sticks) can be bones. I served meringue cookies to some Brownie scouts and called them Ghosts.

Round crackers with cheese could be eyeballs (cut round white cheese, top with cheddar or pimentos/olives if you think the kids will go for such delicacies! LOL)

Chips and salsa - troll ears and goblin sauce

Black cherry kool-aid mixed with orange kool-aid makes a creeepy yet tasty punch. It's dark and you can't really tell what color it is! I froze orange juice in a plastic glove to float in it (peeled the glove off before serving)

That's all I can think of right now. If I get more ideas, I'll let you know!

You realise that I am about to go to bed and dream of pale cold dismembered hands floating in murky purple seas rofl
