OT I need a crochet buddy

My shelter has asked for booties for preemies. Most of the patterns I've found are either big enough for a 30 pound baby or they are ugly or they have seams that I think could be uncomfortable to preemie baby wee little feet. I've experimented with the project of creating a pattern that is small, pretty and seamless. The results are pretty good but I sure would enjoy sharing it with someone who crochets and has some time to work with me. Any one? Polly

I can't crochet worth a dang, but I have a pattern for fleece booties..would those be acceptable as well??

Well, no. Larissa, I think the call for crochet is because you can stretch one open wide enough (gosh, this is hard to explain without using my hands) to just sort of yawn over a tiny foot. Fleece wouldn't have the soft easy stretch we need and it would require a seam. Thank you kindly for the offer, I do appreciate it. Polly

I already packed and moved my baby yarn but if you send the pattern maybe I can get some made next month. Or maybe I can find the yarn and crochet during the drives back and forth this week and next.

I sure wish I could help, but that's the one craft I've never learned to accomplish. I've flunked every time I've tried. Gen

Oh boy, oh boy. Mary, I really wasn't hoping for a donation of tiny booties - what I was trying to find was someone who crocheted and could give my pattern a go. It needs some refining and any suggestions you could make would be so very welcome. I'll email you off-group. So glad to find you. Polly

Polly - the nice people at rec.crafts.textiles.yarn might be able to help. I can't crochet anymore - sorry.

Sure wish I could help Polly. My crochet is somewhat limited. I just came across some booties mom made for ds when he was born. Boy they sure are cute and they are regular baby sized. The preemie ones must be really cute. If you can get someone to help you test your pattern and have the bugs worked out I might be able to give making them a try. You are a wonderful gal Ms. Esther. Hey Polly,

I teach crochet classes in my "spare" time and occasionally I get a student that wants to make "another blanket like this one I made along time ago, but I don't have the pattern, can you help?" So I usually end up writing a pattern based on the stitches in the blanket. I'm pretty sure I could give your pattern a go and let you know if there are any kinks in it. My email is auroraselene and I'm at hotmail. How soon do you need the results? I'm kinda booked up until Sunday, but I can work it up Sunday and let you know by Monday if that's doable for you.

Taria, with Mary and her Ladyship trying to put me together, I just may be sending you a pattern. Yes, I just may be. We'll wait until 'after bug'. Thank you. Polly

Nevermind, Gen. Learning to crawl downstairs may be enough challenge for the next couple of months for you. I'm still having sympathy pains for you on that ordeal. Polly

Oops, forgot to add - no, not a wonderful gal, just a grateful one. We had preemie twins and keeping them warm is a Really Big Deal. Polly

Yeeeeha! With the two of you helping, I'm just bound to finish with a great pattern. How wonderful. No hurry at all about the results. What I have works okay but it would be so lovely to have some input from some real hookers. =) Polly

I wasn't clear what you were looking for, I won't promise to make it up at the right size, but I could definitely try out the pattern and check the shape is correct, I've got a sore wrist right now and can't knit, but I reckon I'd be ok to crochet a small project.

Polly - I'm not too good at pattern writing, but if after its been tested, you want help with making some booties, I'm pretty good at following a pattern.

All of DD prem booties were knitted because mum never got the hang of learning to crochet ( unlike her mother who could crochet and tatt).

I am sure that mum just adjusted doll clothes when knitting for DD,. After 17 years mum would probably 'That was a long time ago I can't remember what I did'

I just had a look at the ones that I have kept and all of these have seams, but DD would have worn these after she came home at 3 months,

Polly, Polly, Polly. I bow/curtsy in awe. Whilst I have crocheted since I was about 6 years old, one thing I could never ever master was booties. Couldn't do it no matter how hard I tried. same as I couldn't knit. Just wasn't me. However, having had two preemies myself, booties were the least of my worries. I let mine live in the gro-suits that had built in booties. In the NICU, well they pretty much lived in nappies and that was it. Bless you for taking these kidlets to heart. I wish you heaps of luck.
