OT - Latest on Sasha

Sasha is 4.5 kg, the weight she is supposed to be, but has never achieved in her 13 years on this planet (until now). I know she's not a skeleton, but I'm not used to being able to feel her ribs or count her vertebrae (I know, it's normal and healthy not to have a covering of fat). The vet said that, to be honest, had she stayed at the 6kg she was when she got ill, she would not be here today... and she's doing well on her heart medication and diuretic. She's losing the fur of her right ear for no reason.. some came off in the vet's hand while he was looking... he said it's unlikely to grow back. Also, she has some thick and sticky eye crusties in the mornings sometimes.... love makes me delicately pick them out. Well, Sasha is a little fighter and is hanging in there and apparently quite well. I would feel better if I saw her eating more often, but I think this heatwave we're having doesn't help. I just heard that August is supposed to be hotter. I make sure she has plenty of water (she has at least 3 different water sources, one for each room in which she likes to hang out), a bowl of her regular dry food and a fishy treat for afters, after her medication - but I don't let that sit out for long in this heat - it draws flies. Thanks Sasha fans! It's nice to know you're rooting for my Siamese treasure. She was helping arrange the stash today, so she's doing her job properly, heat or no heat.

Jo, I'm so glad it appears to be a heat-related thing -- I don't know of anyone, human or critter, who eats a lot when they're suffering from excessive heat. I hope your weather improves soon and that Sasha is back to wolfing down the food!

Please give Sasha a hug and scratch under the chin from Tia Mary, OK? Have you started on her quilt yet? Before you know it, the weather will change and she will need her own special blankie :-)!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Gentle ear rubs from the cats in OZ!

My Poddy fells the heat more and more as she ages (17yo now) but I put a small fan on the floor and if she gets too hot she just lays on her back and lets the breeze ruffle her tummy fur. What a sight!

Do hope Sasha does not get too uncomfortable with the heat. I am NOT looking forward to the summer here. It is regularly 40C (104F) here and I am not sure I want it to get any hotter.

I feed my cat Iams in the orange bag. They have one for weight also as well as hairball. Can you get Iams Catfood over there? As cats age as we do you will feel their bones in the neck area when petting them. Sissy is 12 years old now and I feel them. I feel fortunate to have a cat 10 years and after that each day is a blessing. I've had cats for 19 years so far. Don't give up on hope with Sasha and continue to play with her. Give Sasha a hug for me. Pami

Glad to hear that Sasha is doing well. And I think you are correct, the heat causes the kitties not to eat as much as normal. It's been extra-warm here, too and my bag of crunchies is lasting longer.

Snuggle her gently for me. Our two are eating less in the heat, and following the shade in the garden.

Thanks for the update Jo. I hope she keeps eating, drinking and doing all the usual Kitty things. Hugs sent from Fiona and Sugar, who are envious of her svelte figure.
