You use very thin strips so you can use up what you might otherwise throw away. The book is called "It's a Wrap" (NAYY). Thought I'd share because I think the projects are just so cute and it's easy - in case anyone else is interested!
The instructor brought several examples that she had made and they were so impressive. And the uses are endless..baskets for plants, bowls, pie plate trays, bread baskets, purses - she even made one big enough to be a small laundry basket. I put up a picture of my {rather modest} creation - don't use this to judge them all :)

The class was so wonderful because of the people - everyone was so nice! A co-worker came with me and there we some local quilting ladies. When my machine starting acting up several women came to my rescue...discovering that my bobbin tension was way too tight (didn't know you could adjust that little bobbin holder!) and showing me how to clean up the machine without fear (I'm always afraid I'll destroy it trying to tinker with it). Now it's never worked so well. Just a really nice, generous group of women. What a lovely feel-good day, and on Quilting Day too!
