OT: not quilting, but what I've been doing

Since my MIL prefers us to have "formal" Christmas pictures, as opposed to our preferred "themed" pictures, this year is for her.

I have been working on our outfits - Rebekah's and mine are finished, will be starting on Ken's and Thomas' sometime today, I hope (between painting a door and finishing laundry!).

Hopefully this link works:

Thanks Kate!

COming from you, I take that as an extremely good compliment! I have to get them ironed, but am putting that off until the vests are ready to go as well...limited space for the ironing board with all the projects laid out for me to keep track of. I founf my pattern first, then hunted for one for Rebekah. My pattern was altered so that I could do the bodice and skirt in the different fabrics.

The guys will have velvet vests with satin backs and lapels and will wear them with white shirts, black slacks, and satin ties.

With luck, that will settle my MIL down until she gets next year's picture - we are doing Civil War clothing....lol

I like the two fabric textures, and you got a really good match on the colours. :) Are they both washable? Coz I betya Rebeka wants to wear hers every day and gets chocolate and ice cream and gravy down it! ;)

Ooh, smart! be sre to post pix of you all in your posh togs! :)

Hehehehehehehehe.. That's sort her! ;)

I was so lucky that my MIL was a real treasure who would have loved the fancy dress and costumes.

Wow! Those are gorgeous. I wish I could sew like that.

LOL

Jenn, I started sewing when I was about 5 or 6 years old. That means roughly 18 years doing clothing (of course parents helped me when I first started). I only started quilting in 2000....only 6 years. I have kept up with clothing nearly every year - much cheaper when you have 2 children who grow like weeds and are relying on one income as a family choice. Now granted, I would still sew for myself (and have lots of projects waiting for my attention.

I guess it's just one of those things that grows on you.....started out of necessity when mother was a teacher and dad quit his job to build boats. No money..literally. we lived through the summer on the little garden that we had in the corner of our field (we rented the fields to the neighbor across the street) and whatever we caught on fishing and crabbing trips. When we had need and the extra money, mother would drag out patterns and we would pin and cut of clothing for the 3 of us.

It's just something that I have always done and probably always will.
