OT: Prayers for Piggies Request

This little piggie is not having a good week.....

Started off with a blocked/infected salivary gland----looked like a chipmunk. Had to stay home from work with antibiotics and hot compresses.

While doing that, Friday, I tripped over a stepstool.

I now have a broken foot. It's been splinted by the ER, "no weight bearing", which has made this a rough weekend (I'm sorry, I'm too damn old to do a good job of hopping on one foot from one end of the house to the other---that just makes the good leg hurt a lot). Tomorrow I go to the orthopedica surgeon for casting.

And that's where the prayers come in: I **really really** need this to turn out to be a walking cast. I need to be able to walk in it, or I can't work.

And I need to be able to clutch with it, or I can't drive. As some of y'all know, I live alone, and I'm the only one taking care of me. Depending on how this visit comes out, this could be disastrous for me.

OMG! I'm so very, very sorry. I wish I could help. I know what this all means to you. Been there, done that....but I had lots of help. All fingers crossed and good wishes being sent that you can get around on two feet. Hopping on one leg tends to screw THAT one up! I know.

Ouch! Would that pigs could fly NOW! But thoughts and prayers can, and they're on their way from Indiana. Did the ER not give you crutches in the meantime? They're tricky to use, but hopping is downright dangerous...and confuses the Easter bunnies.

I hope you let the docs know your situation so that they can give you the walking cast if at all possible. I remember having to switch cars with my daughter when she fractured an ankle and couldn't use her stick shift. My car was automatic transmission and we switched cars for six weeks! (I had to re-learn how to drive a stick shift!)

It's VERY hard when you're on your own. My nearest family is an hour and 20 minutes away so I know how it feels to have to manage for yourself no matter what.

So sorry to hear this. If it can't be a walking cast, is there a medical rental any where near you? When I had major foot surgery I rented a "scooter" that I placed the surgical knee on, and pushed it with my good foot. I don't have strength enough in either leg to use crutches. It's like a one-legged walker. Works great. As for the car, if you can't clutch, you may have to rent a car for the duration. There's always ways to cope. Another thing that really helped was to get a toilet seat that is much higher--- easier than just the regular one. Gen

Prayers definitely going out. Be sure to tell casting and the orthopedic surgeon exactly what you told us.

You're right, Megan. That does sound like a rotten week. I do hope you are able to get the cast you hope for. Perhaps you could borrow an automatic car 'for the duration'? All the best for tomorrow. . In message , Megan Zurawicz writes
