OT really! a cool sewing fix

Fastening the top button on my sweetheart's dress shirts has always been a pain in the neck. After studying alternatives, the baby soft velcro caught my attention. Always 'testing 1, 2, 3', I took a shabby white shirt, clipped off the button and stitched on the hook and loop stuff being very careful that the soft side was the one that might touch skin. YeeeHa! it worked and beautifully. How I wish I'd thought of this 50 years ago. Now Mr. Esther can simply press the collar stand ( I think it's called) of his dress shirts together, no fumbling or pinching. How's that for cool? Polly

Our granddaughter's wedding is this weekend and I needed to be sure that DH wouldn't run into problems dressing his handsome self. He was willing, not enthusiastic but willing, to try on a new shirt. When I saw the struggle with a tiny button and a tinier buttonhole, I decided there just must be a kinder way. Now there are just a few thousand more challenges for the wedding. I hope I can resolve a few more. Polly

It did cross my mind that you had been having a dress rehearsal! Hope everything goes marvellously and happily well. I'm sure it will. . In message , Polly Esther writes

Someplace in my files is an article on adapting readymade clothing for the handicapped. One suggestion was replacing all buttons with Velcro but sewing the button over the buttonhole so the shirt still looks like it has buttons. If your husband always wears a necktie there is no need to re-sew the button to the shirt. You didn't even need the article clever gal.
