Take pictures of the shirts, then take pictures of the quilts when they are done. Since you are giving them to family, you can give a picture of the shirts along with the quilt. Maybe you have some pictures of FIL wearing them you can include also.

Don't cut until you're ready, Anita...... if remembering him fondly while looking at them, think of all the love that will be passed on while you're sewing quilts. Very powerful, indeed. And they will be treasured, I'm sure.

I know what you mean - I see a checked fabric pattern (whether on actual fabric or on scrapbook paper, on a sticker or anything else), and I immediately think of my Dad, who loves wearing those shirts.

Don't push yourself, the time will come when you are able to pick up the shirts and work with them, but for now just hug them. There's no hurry.

As you say, Suzie, no hurry; I've had my dad's flannel shirts for 5+ yrs, taken off the hangers before Mom could pitch them out or her youngest son could add them to his garage sale. I remember my dad wearing these shirts, and others like them, all my life. They'll keep until I "get around to it".

Use his ties and the shirts and make a bowtie quilt. I have that book called "Daddy's ties" my latest thing is I pick up cool ties at yard sales now. You can also color Easter eggs with ties. Pami

If you send me a picture of your FIL...I'll have hubby make you a photo block to put in the quilt. This would be a nice memory. Pami
