OT Sharing an idea

I just updated my "In Case of Emergency" sheet that I carry and I thought some of you might be interested in making one as well.

I prepared a sheet with BIG bold letters across the top "In Case of Emergency"- with complete contact info for my parents, my sons and instructions that if I have one or more dogs with me they should be taken to the nearest veterinary clinic for treatment and/or boarding until they could be picked up by either of two listed names- with their phone numbers and addresses. (Those two people know my dogs well and have the keypad code to my garage door opener, so they can get into my house.) Then I listed my own info and signed it. I made a second reduced size copy for my handbag. Then I made another sheet with just the words "In Case of Emergency" and put that on the back side of the two instruction sheets.

Both are laminated- but I use the 'hillbilly method' of clear, self-adhesive shelf paper to cover both sides. The larger copy is carried in the console of my truck, folded in half with the "In Case of Emergency" side out so passers-by can't read the info thru the truck's windows. The smaller copy stays in my handbag at all times.

Living alone, this makes me feel a bit better that everybody would be notified and my precious HairyButt Gang would be cared for in case I was hospitalized... or worse. That peace of mind is important to me.

Thought I would pass this idea on to my fave quilters. ;-)

GOod ideas. Don't forget the ICE # on your cell phone.

I hope you either belt/harness or crate your pooches while traveling? Sometimes I think I am the only one to do that.

Perhaps something to add to the information is: any medications you are allergic to, your blood type, conditions/dis-eases you may have, and if you have DNR request [do not resuscitate] orders.

That really is a good idea, Leslie. Last weekend, the weather here was dreadful - flooding and all sorts. My DH was away and I realised that, if anything happened to me/my car etc on the way to or from church, there was no one who could access anything to care for the cats - and the kitten had only been here two weeks. So, I didn't go to church. A perfect example of how a similar sheet would have helped. Thank you for the idea. . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

Well, to continue on that thinking- I also have feeding instructions near the dog dishes and dog food (and the type of dog food since I keep it stored in a big garbage can rather than the original bag) in my laundry room. The dogs' ages and immunization dates and a few other details are on the feeding sheet.

And there's an instruction sheet near my 'puter with email friends to notify as well. And I have my 'ICE' phone numbers in my cell phone. My important papers and will are easily found in my desk. I *think* I have everything covered! VBG

And now I am going to re-do the new sheets that I just made to add my prescription drugs and my drug allergies. That's important info as well.

Details...details!!! ;-)

also any supplaments you take, ie. vitamins etc. and any homeopathic remedys you use. sometimes we forget to include those when asked by a dr what we take. they all interact and sometimes not as well as we'd like them to. ya just never know, eh. j.

When we got rear-ended, the ambulance ppl took the bag of meds..and LEFT MY PURSE! Purse had all my allergy/prescription/medical history/date of surgeries papers in a clearly marked envelope. I could NOT remember what all I can't take, so the Dr went thru the meds I had with me and waited until DH got there before he gave me anything else. Even being prepared doesn't always mean all the info will be available when needed. Now both kidlets have the papers with them as their numbers are 'on the phone'.even tho we aren't travelling anymore.

We have tags with our cell phone number on the inside pets and the gators. Having the home phone number on them would be useless if we're out calling " Here, gator, gator, gator". Polly

But Miss Polly -- which of us (not me!!!) would get close enough to the gator to read the number on the tag????

LOL. Well, yes. There's that. Sounded like a good idea. Polly

just what i was wondering too, Kate. as they seem to have been trained to come when they're called for dinner, maybe they should be trained to tell folks the cellphone number if they get lost or how about a microchip under their hide. oh nevermind that, no vet is gonna be doing that anytime soon, eh. snorfle, j.

This has been a good thread, thank you Leslie for starting it.

And timely. Last week and this coming week I am out of town on a work- related assignment. HR at work has my emergency contacts, which doesn't help if I am not there.

Because I have a chronic condition that may result in sudden flares, there are those at work who know if I tell them I need help, they know what to do. I also have DNR instructions with my doctor/hospital, and made sure the info at HR includes that. While it may not be a popular option in some circles, it is right for me.

Here in California, with the proliferation of earthquakes, my ICE info includes the phone number for my sis in Washington State.

Guess I needed to clarify which phone. Their numbers are on our Cell phone that is with us when we leave the house. Yes, we take it even to go grocery shopping, since both of us have Chronic conditions.

Did that help?

Oh, good. Cause I hate going round all day trying to figure out if I meant what I said, said what I meant, and if the person listening heard the first or second or none of the above.

Leslie, When we had the Hurricane bearing down on us I made a list of all occupants of our house, names, DOB's allergies and meds taken and closest relatives not living in our home and a list of all of our pets with scanned pics of each printed on the page. I used my food saver to seal them in. I put one in the freezer, one in each vehicle and taped one to the outside of the frig. I also notified several close friends and relatives that if we were not heard from within 24 hours of the storms passing to notify the local authorities.

We were fortunate not to have had a lot of damage to our home and were safe from harm.
