OT - Website space

I have been carrying my domain name snipsnstitches now for 2 years and would really like to develop a website (not a blog). However, so many of them are like $29/month - way out of my budget. Does anyone have a service that costs about $10 a month?

Thanks as always.

does your isp have free websites? ours does and i'm only on dial up. i'd think anyone who is using broadband/cable/whatever its called, should have free websites on their own isp. worth a check on their homepage. how is the neck now? getting better now i hope. also the swallowing. with xmas on the horizon you'd really want to swallow with no probs. t'would be a major pita if you missed out on all the xmas goodies, eh. gentle hugz, j.

I use WestHost

and they are wonderful! Support 24/7, very responsive and lots of tools on their site. I've been with them for more than 10 years with 5 accounts. Tell them "HomeLine Computing" sent you! --

Jan, I use StartLogic, and they're less than $10/month. This last time, I renewed for two years, bringing my bill down to about $6/month. It's slightly higher for a one-year deal.

More and more ISPs are discontinuing free web space these days. That's what happened to me when Earthlink sold out to Embarq in our area. :S

GoDaddy is that price. I don't know how their tech support is, I haven't needed any. Which is a good sign. : )

Boca Jan,

We use Lunarpages and they have been pretty good. They have a lot of add-on products that are free with a webiste. Our bill is about $100 / year and they have discounts for multi-year contracts. I do like their web stats that are easily viewable and provides solid feedback abuot the traffic on your site.

Good luck!

Sandy,

Embarq still offers free web hosting to DSL subscribers. If you look on

formatting link
and look on the toolbar on the left, you will see a section titled, "My Services" and under that click the link "Personal Webspace." If you have any other questions just send me an email at Embarq snipped-for-privacy@embarq.com. Thanks!

Thanks, Joey -- that's good to know. However, that wasn't the case a couple of years ago when the switch went into effect; I even called Embarq to ask where the webspace was and was told there wouldn't be any. :S That's when I bought my domain.

What about usenet? Is Embarq offering access to these newsgroups, too? I'd love to stop paying SuperNews (though they do a good job).

Sorry to hear that someone gave you misinformation. I'll admit that the web hosting is very limited. You are probably better off with what you have now.

I haven't heard anything about integrating usenet into our offerings, but I can certainly suggest it. Thanks for responding to my post.
