Pieced Applique book review

Has anyone bought the new book Pieced Applique by Penny Haren? It looks intrigueing but can't find out what is in it and no LQS here has it yet. It looks like you piece the background and applique more on top that looks like it is pieced...( I think !)... Anyway I thought it might be helpful while doing the Dear Jane blocks but am tired of buying more books that I'll not use w/o first checking w/ others . There were no reviews at Amazon or anywhere online. Thanks, Mary

Mary, not sure about the book. Haven't seen it in person, but will keep an eye out for it. As for the DJ blocks, after making mine all by drawing out and measuring and such, I think the easiest way is the freezer paper template way. Linda Franz really explains this well in her books, Quilted Diamonds and Quilted Diamonds 2. QD2 even has a DVD that is almost 2 hours on hand piecing using this method. If you are planning to machine piece/applique the same method would work too. (However, with some of these blocks hand piecing is easier, or regular paper foundation piecing. )

Good luck on your DJ.. keep us informed of your progress. (Mine is in the quilting stage... but summer and a quilt on your lap, in Arizona, just don't go together at all. )

I have made some of the DJ blocks by hand piecing and some by machine..Might have done an applique or two ..been so long since I worked on it that I've forgotten . I'm impressed by anyone that has actually finished those lovely little blocks !! Good for you ~! I did see a DJ quilt the other day that I think that I could manage to finish ..the gal used an Irish chain layout and of course the alternate blocks were DJ s . It really looked like some thing I could actually finish in my lifetime especially if I enlarged the blocks to 8" or so ( VBG ) Mary
