Pincushions

Nov 22, 2005 7 Replies

I have been side tracked from quilting to make some pincushions. I don't know what has gotten into me, but all I've wanted to do is make pincushions.

I've been making 3" churn dash blocks. Added piping around the edge. I was given a Piping Trimming Tool by Susan Cleveland

and am in love with piping now too. The pincushions are backed with a fun print fabric and then stuffed with my wool batting scraps.

Anyone else been making fun little quilty projects or gifts?

Marcella, I haven't made any little pincushions, but I had to comment on that piping tool! I bought one a few months ago and *love* it! It makes making and applying piping so easy that I'm looking for extra places to use it. I've already piped the bindings on two quilts and will probably do lots more that way; it gives a little extra "something" to the finished quilt. :)

Will we get to see your pincushions?

Hey, this reminds me, does anyone have a link to turning water bottle/pop bottle tops into wearable pin cushions?

hey Marcella, just went to susans website and perused her new tool for piping. looks neat. a couple of questions. does it work with larger cord? the pix show very very tiny cord..1mm, eeeeeeek.. have you tried using it with curves edges yet? her booklet has instructions for this. i like piping on pillows sometimes but havent yet tried it with quilts. i'd like to tho. this tool working for either left or right handers is useful too, tho i'm with the majority. oops, nearly forgot to ask....got pix?? hugz, jeanne

I think it's why I'm having so much fun with the pincushions. An excuse to make piping!

If I ever get the website finished. I got sidetracked with the guild one and haven't gotten back to mine. Lazy, lazy girl.

I've only played with the tiny stuff and I believe that is all the ruler will do. The groove is not very big.

I have only done squares - on quilts and pincushions! - although my corners can be a bit curvy at times :-)

I've been thinking of you because I've been using lime scraps.

No pictures yet though.

lime scraps, hmm, sounds like an oxymoron to me but whatever, they must surely be divine in that colour. :) thinking of me....geez, hope that doesnt take a toll on your health at all. :)) hugz, jeanne
