I used your method of making ribbons for our celebrity judges. First off, everyone loved the idea! I ended up with 15 ribbons to make. So that wasn't too bad.
I did change one thing. I found all kinds of free blocks on the internet and just saved them on my desktop in a file. I then imported the pictures into Publisher, laminated them, made a back the same size as the front where I put the date and guild information and punched 2 holes for the safety pin. Inserted the safety pin and glued on the 2 ribbons made out of cardstock which identified that these were celebrity judges and who they were.. I then glued the front laminated quilt block pic to the back portion. Clothespinned them all together and let them dry.
Realized I had put in every stinkin' safety pin backwards. Had to cut a slit in the back, get them out, turn them around, reinsert that safety pin and tape a patch over the slit. They held up, but I held my breath.
Everyone was VERY impressed and the celebrity judges had a ball. We really enjoyed all of them except the chick from the paper who showed up 2 hours late and could NOT make up her mind.
I was really bemused by the fact that the bank president (the bank is one of our sponsors) chose a whole cloth quilt as his favorite. It was beautifully done, but for a non-quilter, especially a man to even notice the workmanship was amazing. My husband would have thought someone hung a white sheet up by mistake.
Most of the other's were pretty predictable. Most of the men seemed to favor 2 color quilts. Especially purple and white and red and white. The rest of the men and the woman chose across the board.
I thought it was ironic that not one celebrity judge chose the Best-in-Show quilt. But not many of the rest of us could figure that out either.
I won 2 ribbons. A first and second in the miniature category. I will post pictures tomorrow.
We had a good crowd and some great vendors. I did my part to help the economy. Attendance was down a little, but we kind of expected that. What we didn't expect was that we were down 50 quilts from last year. We only had 152 entries. I have no idea what the problem was.
I love the quilt show, but I am glad it was over and I was just a volunteer. I would never be chair, it would finish me off.
