Question about selling fabric on ebay

I have to reduce my stash. My poor, neglected fabric is weeping openly and keeping me up at night. It'll be at least a week before I get around to it, but thought I should plan in advance. I had a couple of issues though and was hoping someone here could help.

What I need to reduce is my scrappy stash. You know, the leftover stuff that ranges in size from little to maybe some yardage. I have that stuff sorted by colors mostly. I have two buckets that still need sorted but still have most of it done already. So, here's the questions.

Should I list the stuff in groups by colors? Maybe weigh it? Like 5lb of blue scraps or whatever? Or should I try to cut them into squares? I figured just listing the scraps would be better since I have no idea what the buyer would do with it. They may not want squares and I would end up with more squares of some fabrics than others. And who knows what size squares they want. AND I have two small kids with almost no time to cut (hence the need to find loving homes for my stash).

Then again, I'm not sure someone would want a bunch of one color. I would, but I'm anal. I guess I can't be the only anal quilter but I'm trying to appeal to the largest audience possible. Or maybe I should just try to focus on finding the best possible home for this stuff.

Someone make this decision for me. I know that many of you are willing to give this stuff good homes and I appreciate that. But after adding up my fabric receipts for last year, I think I should pay off a credit card or two first. I promise that whatever doesn't sell will be donated to some lucky quilter who just doesn't have enough of whatever color.

Oh yeah, the yardage that I have of some fabrics, should I sell that seperately? Please don't think I'm trolling for buyers. I'm not even listed on ebay under thiis email address and I'm not going to mention my ebay username. I just want someone elses opinion. My brain is full right now, so someone else needs to do the thinking if possible.

TIA, Denisblair

bags of scraps sounds good. However I'd list yardage (whole yards or half yards *or* if you have a larger bit sell it as one piece) separately. I'd also see if there are any FQ's there and list them separately or make FQ packs from them. Then from what is left I'd sort by colour bag them and call them scrap grab bags. You *might* get more for charm squares but if you don't have time to cut I'd just do the scrap bags.

If it were me I would sell the yardage separately from the scraps. I often look at ebay for quilting fabric and fat quarters. I have found some really nice fabric there and some things that I can't find else where.

On the scraps part I would list approximately what size they are and I would mix them too, might sell them by weight also.

Good luck with your selling,

Having sold on ebay many times, I agree with Jessamy and Jacqueline. Good luck!

You have 5 lbs. of blue scraps?? (OK, I'm drooling a little.)

Scraps to me are smaller than a FQ. I save down to1" strips/ squares. So list FQs and larger separately. Also, if I were buying, I'd like some assurance that it's all quilting-weight cotton. Roberta in D, Queen of the Scrap Heap (because I don't let my subjects pile up!)

Denisblair: If I was a potential customer of the scraps bag, I'd want to know if the fabric had been washed. I'd hate to have to wash odd scraps, or even charm squares, prior to cutting. For FQ pieces and larger, that is not an issue. JMO, PAT
