Quilt about sexual abuse

I have just completed the blocks for my quilt on sexual abuse, incest specifically. There are no explicit images, but they are disturbing nonetheless. I have the sashing and border fabric on order; I hope to complete the top this week.

Disturbing is right, Susan. You've managed to imply without specifics -- a very difficult feat. Congratulations. :)

Very tasteful treatment of a very distasteful subject. I don't know of anyone who could have done it as well as you have. Well done, Susan! Debra in VA See my quilts at

The quilt is filled with emotion - even as I looked at the blocks, I could feel the pain. I hope that making this fabulous piece of art helped.

Susan as a parent who's child was sexually abused by a neighbor, I thank you for doing this wonderful quilt. What are your plans with it?

Thank you all for your positive comments on this project. It has been an emotional ride. But I am happy to say that when I got to the final two blocks I had to imagine what healing would look like; this lead me to my own healing.

Currently I have two opportunities to hang this quilt lined up. The first will be at a national conference of psychiatrists. The second is at BayWAR, Bay Area Women Against Rape. Beyond that, I will be looking for venues where the quilt can help others.

Including myself, the quilt has already helped three women. One was raped at age 7 and had not spoken of it to her therapist prior to seeing my design; at age 24 she is now trying to work through her trauma. The second woman was not abused but saw images which seemed to illustrate her emotional state.

Somehow, I don't think I will enter this in the quilt show at the local church. If you know of any places that might be interested in displaying this quilt, please let me know.

I agree. Very powerful, and creepy (draining is a better word). Gets the idea across without being explicit.
