RCTQ 2006-2007 BOM

My quilt is finished and bound! It's drying now (had to wash the cat hairs off) and when it's dry, I'll send it to my mom for Mother's Day.

I had a hard time getting a good picture of the finished quilt. I don't have a place to hang something that large!

Hopefully the above link will get you to the pictures I did take.

Wow! Very nice. I particularly like your setting and sashing fabric. They really set off the blocks. joan

Thank you Joan, Louise, Dannielle, and Marsha! I think my mom will like it since she saw a few of the blocks when I first started, and she liked those. I think she's forgotten all about the quilt by now, so it should be a big surprise. I've never done a staggered layout like that before, or a quilt with so many different blocks and fabrics. I, for one, am very glad to have it finished!!!!

Carole your quilt is beautiful. I love how well your colors just blend so well with each other and offer that "pop" that a good fabric choice gives to a quilt.

Thanks Dorothy, Taria, Kay, Cheryl, Rita, and Karen!!! It takes having a deadline in order for me to finish a project this quickly.

I did do all the quilting myself. I used a walking foot and straight-line quilting on the sashings and borders, although I did add some free-motion swirly curliques to the border. The blocks are all done free-motion. I considered it "practice." I still have very inconsistent stitch length, although it's getting better. I'm using a domestic machine, not a long-arm. (It's an Elna Quilter's Dream.) I would be getting into a good rhythm and having nice smooth designs with even stitches when the cat would jump right up on top of everything, sending the lines of quilting off into jagged directions. They stayed in. I'm telling Mom that Gray Soufflé helped and that she's responsible for all the "variations" in the quilting designs!!! Mom won't care. She'll think it's funny, because she's fully aware of Gray Soufflé's personality!

Carole, It inspires me. I will be digging out the patterns for the ones I did not get finished. It is gorgeous.
