Re: Bad news - good news!

Well, today we move the sweet step daughter (SSD) out to college. She will

Can you knock out the wall between the two rooms? ;)

Not a bad idea, but I don't think my DH would go for that. He doesn't mind a temporary situation, but we're probably only here another 5 years before we retire, so I'd rather keep the house at the number of bedrooms we currently have to keep the house more 'salable'. Good idea though!

Bun Voyajee, SSD! This could be a Grand Adventure for her!

Ikea shelves may be just the ticket for that empty room. They hold all sorts of usefully stuff!

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? Alice, you sound like you've been one of the world's best step-Moms.

It would not have been possible without having the world's best step daughter (and step son!) first! They are good kids! Had a couple of bumps in the road, but all in all, turned out ok.

Oh, I forgot, Kirby shares the room my step son uses when he visits. He was here every other weekend, and for almost 4 months continuously when his mom had her motorcycle accident. But, then he turned 17, got his license, bought a pick-up truck and we haven't seen him since! I figured Kirby would be comfortable there since it was decorated as a boys room after all. Of course we keep him crated at night (Kirby, not the DSS!) so he doesn't get to use the TV, stereo, Play Station or computer. Doesn't seem fair, does it?

When my son moved out I moved ALL of hubby's clothes into the spare bedroom. Now when he gets up for work at 3;30 a.m,, he just quietly leaves our room and gets dressed in the other bedroom. It's the best thing I ever did. He has a closet for his hanging things and shoes, and a shelf closet for his folded things. He has a full length mirror, and his own clothes hamper. I also moved all of his stuff out of the drawers in our bureau. Now they're ALL MINE!!!!!!!

I now have the two sliding door closets in my bedroom to myself, one for winter and one for summer.

We shared closets for 33 years, I don't know why we did it that way, the new way makes so much more sense.

What a great idea! We both get up around the same time so I don't have quite the same issues. I have more hanging things and sweaters, so I was going to customize the new room for my things. Hopefully, I'll get some extra room to store holiday fabrics and ones I don't use on a routine basis. Method to my madness, you see!

I'm ok with the closet - our's doesn't have a door. He puts his socks on while sitting on the edge of the bed. That's when our little Gypsy nuzzles up to him for her first back scratch of the day. It's sweet to watch.

But, when we retire in a few years, I want my own bathroom! That's not negotiable! And a king sized bed. But, definitely my own bathroom, with a whirlpool tub and a toilet where the seat NEVER goes up!

That sounds fairly similar to what we plan to do, go up! (and a bit out!) Our current bedroom will become the lounge room we don't have ATM!
