Hi Kate,

Reassuring to hear that there have been others in a similar situation. Some groups only want people who have experience, as they can't be bothered having beginners asking daft (to them) questions. Such a relief to find such a friendly, chatty group, with such a mother lode of experience and so willing to share it. I'm going to relish downloading daily!! Lynn

Hello Karen,

If I can only get started properly, I'll definitely finish. :-) Lynn

Hello Wendy,

Many thanks for your brilliant suggestion, - the iron is now almost completely clean. Three brown paper bags and a jug of water with some bicarb in it, did the trick. Yay!!! Must bear it in mind, for next time :-) Lynn

Hi Jalynne,

I definitely want to complete, not only, a quilt, but half a dozen of them. I've got this buzz of excitement about the whole thing!! Now what's the business with chocolate? I was asked this before, and I'm wondering what ones preference would point to? Favourite colours would have to be smoky shades of blue, green, pink etc. All those slightly 'off' shades that are somehow elusive. I also love the acidic yellows and sharp magentas. Just lurv colour!! Lynn

Hi nana2b,

Thanks for the welcome :-). I don't think I've ever been offered such warmth and open-heartedness from any group, as I've experienced within the last 24 hours. I'm totally knocked out by the whole thing :-) Lynn

Hello TerriLee,

I am just itching to have a go, but have decided I should first acknowledge everyone who took the time respond to my post. I am convinced that the QAYG will be a good introduction for me, as I cannot, at the moment, envision manhandling a queen size sandwich under the foot of my sewing machine, without one of us getting swamped or falling on the cat. This is definitely going to be a happening thing, (singing) dum-de-dum-de-dum. Today is cold enough to wotsit the brass wotsits off a brass monkey :-) Lynn

Hi Patti,

Well now I am a tad envious!! I wouldn't DARE to look at the back of my (lightly) quilted cushion covers. My logic being, 'Be thankful you got the bits to match on the front, don't be such an ingrate as to check out the back!'. :-) Where would I find the QAYG pictures you mentioned? Is there an archive type wotsit that stores the past posts? Lynn

I'll pay you to name names. I'll pay even more to keep my own name off the list. :-) Diana, QP in training

Hi Lynn:

Divide & Conquer: Quilt It Your Way Nancy Smith, Lynda Milligan

Unfortunately I can't find it discounted at Half.com, Overstock.com, etc. I bought mine at Amazon.com for full price. It is the first quilt book I have paid full price for and don't regret it for a minute!

Hi Lynn, QI (Quilt Inspector) is usually an animal that checks to make sure that your quilts are suitable to be snuggled on. They inspect at regular intervals, usually while you are sewing the pieces together! My QI is Sugar. Her picture is on the webshots album. She is 8 pounds and very particular NOT!

Hullo Lynn I just *knew* you would ask me that!! You see, I have a fairly selective memory. I can usually remember the folks and their tales and expertise, but as to 'how to do things on the computer', it goes in one ear and out the other! I do know that you can track down old posts through Google. You go to Google and search for RCTQ and then I think it might be Archives? Or you could search for 'Julia in MN'? Can someone who knows properly help us here? Pleee-ase? Thank you muchly.

Greetings Lynn! Glad you have joined us in all the fun we have! You're a woman after my own heart with the rotary cutter... I think however cutting a scarf would have been much safter than the 11 stitches I had in my finger with a quick slide of the blade... fortunately for me, I have only had minor encounterers with the blade, like cutting through a longer fingernail or something... :). Now I don't believe I can help you with the iron and the plastic, or even with the 'quilt as you go' method of quilting. What I can share with you is this grand feeling of creating something you have wanted to do for a long time and have finally taken the plunge into doing. juliasb

You mean I'm not the only one.......

But I have got my first one started just waiting for more fabric and the batting to arrive ,but am not looking forward to quilting it as i don't have a walking foot yet. I did see one on ebay for $100 starting price so that will be waiting a while longer.
