Scrappy Star top pieced

This top has been a long time in the making, over 10 years. I hand-pieced the blocks--there are 53 of them. After working at the hand-piecing off an on for years, I was surprised to discover that I was so near done this year. After sewing the last one, I made quick work of piecing them together. After the 4th of July, I will start machine quilting it.

If you don't like bright, busy quilts, close your eyes! LOL! The reason for the mauvy-purple strip in the border is that this quilt will eventually be on the bed in a room that has an accent wall that color.

The block pattern came out of Traditional Quiltworks magazine (at least I think that was the name of the magazine). I think I still have the pattern and article stashed in a notebook, if you're interested in more info. Anyway, the original quilt had no borders and instead of using alternating black and white backgrounds, it was made with alternating red and white background fabrics. Really bright and pretty--however, I prefer red in smaller doses. :-)

You're right, hand-piecing is relaxing. I'm toying with starting another Drunkard's Path. Do you have a current hand-piecing project?

When I saw the quilt in the Traditional Quiltworks magazine, the change in colors and emphasis is what intrigued me about the quilt too.

The color value changes are what intrigued me about this quilt when I first saw it in Traditional Quiltworks many moons ago. The original quilt was done with white and red backgrounds.
