Slipping pedal

What is the easiest way to keep a sewing machine pedal from sliding across the floor when sewing?

I have been using a mouse pad but even that is too slick. The only one that works is the one that I use for my computer. I won't need this on a regular basis but I am working up at the school on the slick cafeteria floor and I'm tired of chasing my pedal.

Any suggestions????????

In earlier days I had a little sheet of rubber they give away at tupperware party's to open bottles and glass containers and such, do you know what ~I mean?

That type of thing did the trick for me, now I have a cheap taiwan thing that is simular and was bought in a cookingshop:)

Non-skid shelf liner? Small rug or piece of carpet?

Oh I think I have one of those. Gotta go check.

Thanks Granny.

I glued scraps of leather, rough side down, to the feet of mine.

I use a piece of the stuff they sell to go under rugs, they have something very similar to use for shelf lining or drawer lining. It's either at the dollar store or they sell it by the yard at TSWLTH. I also use a thicker piece (the rug padding stuff) under my machine (especially the serger) to keep the vibration from moving the machine.

The dollar store has those neat rubberized non-slip shelf liners. We use them in our camper...nothing slides on it. You can cut it to size as it comes in a roll, and put a square of it under the foot controller.

Our 23 pound tom cat liked to sleep on the foot pedal. That certainly kept it from moving anywhere and more than once, he ran the SM by himself. Polly

Kinda hard to take him to the high school with me. Don't think the janitors would be too happy about that but nice idea anyway.

Found one and it didn't work that well. Still slid around some.

Have you ever seen those things that cellists use? It is a strip of wood with a hole that the chair leg is put through. You could do the same thing, wide enough for your foot pedal, and with a block of wood at the end for the pedal to butt up against. You would have to custom make it and measure how far out you want your pedal from the chair leg. Just an idea.

How about sticking a strip of Velcro to the back, assuming of course, the pedal is on carpet?

I am merely a minion to my cat, I'd have to come up a few notches to be considered a servant. One trick I was carefully taught (minion training is quite rigorous) is that after he has found a very nicely folded piece of fabric, carefully chosen for napping upon, that once said piece of fabric is discovered with a nice evenly coated mat of hairs woven into the fabric, the minion must lift said cat's chosen piece of fabric very carefully to access any other fabric under it. Then said fabric must be replaced, carefully, in the same spot, preferably with minion pounding back a comfy indentation in the disturbed fabric under-pile before replacing "napping fabric" on top.

And back to "ON Topic"; I've used that no skid, waffley shelf liner to keep things from slipping. I also have a piece under my serger and have cut a piece to fit the drawer I keep all my scissors. They don't slide/move around when you open and close the drawer. Good stuff.

Caution - velcro MAY do awful things to that spot of carpet it comes in constant contact with. Just ask me how I know!

Cindy,

Have you tried that rubber shelf liner? You know the stuff with the holes in it. Can't think of the name of it.

Put the hooked side of some stick-on velcro on the underside of the pedal. Then put a rubber-back carpet square on the floor (unless it's already carpeted) and you're good to go. Roberta in D

I tried out the shelf liner, it worked for a little while, but it slowly started to slip, then became so bad, that and the foot petal and the shelf liner where slipping together..

I think we need a box to put our foot petal in, with one inches sides to keep it from running, then again the box would start to try to run also.

The only good I have found from the slippage is I have to take a small brake at least to find the foot petal again and replace it in a better spot.
