suggestions please?

So, DD is excited because we are going to try and have her room repainted b efore she goes back to school in August. I'd like to have gotten started o n her new quilt by then, but can't seem to find a pattern that fits....eith er too girly, too young, or too applique (something I still haven't learned how to do properly).

I guess I'm picking minds for a simplistic 3-color quilt that might work we ll for a tween to teen room (she'll be 10 in October....hard to believe tha t, even though I can clearly remember calling Karen to give her all the inf ormation)....and she's settled on purple (walls), white (furniture and trim ), and black (chalkboard wall and room accessories)....I found one that we both liked, but she said that she only "liked" it that it wasn't great to h er {sigh}.

Thanks bunches for your help...figure if I start now, I might have it done in time for Christmas

P.S. Thank you for the comments and support about Brady. We are all doing well, though Thomas still has bouts of missing him and crying, which I exp ected. Both children are asking me to finish the shadow boxes for them, so that will be one of today's projects. Thanks again

Jenny Doan (Missouri Star QC) has some nice patterns on YouTube. The two I like are 'Xs and Os' and 'Summer in the Park', both of which could be done in a simple two or three colour scheme.

Just recently, I used another idea from the Gourmet Quilter (also on YouTube). It's basically a Rail Fence block constructed in such a way as to look like basketweave. The tutorial is in her 'Doodles with Noodles' section. I made a baby quilt in two shades of blue gingham, navy, white and a blue print. I must say the layout was as simple as anything to achieve and the finished result is quite stunning.

Are you intending to confine yourself just to purple, white and black solids, or will you allow for blenders or prints in the mix. That would open up your choices a lot. For example, you could do something geometrical like Tumbling Blocks. Let us know what you decide on, though, won't you? ;D

Warm Wishes is simple and quick and has room for fancy quilting or simply S ITD or diagonal quilting. You can use only two colors/fabrics for the bar s and the third in the squares or use four or more fabrics. Do a search- some of the settings and color placements are stunning!

Disappearing Nine-Patch is super easy with great results! I use it for Project Linus quilts. There are a number of tutorials on the 'net.

Not confined to solids at all. Can't do cream because she's already said i t needs to be BRIGHT white to match the furniture and such {sigh}.

Thanks for the suggestions...I will do a search on them - having gotten out of quilts for a while, I'm struggling to come up with ideas that are withi n my abilities and that she deems are not too "little girl" but are good fo r a "growing, almost big" girl {sigh} attitude and opinions and she's only

10!!!

Thanks again, and once we find one that she responds to with more than, "eh , it's ok" I will post back

How about this cute chevron quilt that popped up on the moda site?

Just rectangles sewn in pairs but a fun pattern and not "little girl" at all.

She really liked Summer in the Park, then asked me about one that we had se en in one of my magazines. SO we pulled that out and I held it up next to a picture of a Summer in the Park quilt....she opted for the one in the mag azine.

The quilt is called "Raspberry Cheesecake" and was in t he Spring 2013 McCa lls Quilting magazine - 'America Makes Fast Quilts'

SO....substitute various purples for the pinks, make the white a tone-on-to ne instead of a white with black, and make the sashing stripes black with s catters of white dots....will try to get a picture of the fabrics.....the d ots on the black aren't even spaced...kind of look sprayed/spattered.....so ...now that I have everything for the top, I just need to rework the line u p of sewing joba with this one added in and get to work....I *might* be abl e to get this done and off to a friend to machine quilt for me (long arm... and they will do the binding for me if I want them to...lol)....anyway, tha t's what she chose.....more when there's more to report

That's a great pattern for what she wants, and I like the fabric choices you've described. That quilt is "ageless" so it should work for as long as she wants it to!
