Very OT; think of us tomorrow please!

I know many of you have suffered the vents I have occasionally had regarding the MIL, who has lived with us for almost eight years.

Tomorrow we are telling her it is time to go to an Assisted Living facility. She is unhappy, and we are, too. She has said a couple of times that she should be in a Nursing Home. Even though she is 88, she isn't sick, but frail and contrary. We have found a nice Ass Liv Facility where our three main criteria were met.

  1. She can take her cat. 2. They will let her use an electric wheelchair ( after a training course).
  2. She can stay at the same facility after her money runs out, and Medicaid picks up. She has about enough money to last 12 months at 2500 a month; it is possible we may get some money for her from VA.

I am cooking a nice turkey dinner, and we will have our talk afterwards. Then if she shuts herself in her room for a few days, she will have a full tummy!!

Wish us luck, gang!

Gillian

Sending good vibes to you in what is a delicate task. After Dad died we had to get mother to go into a home, she was not capable of looking after herself. We the family looked after her for 25 years following a heart attack. I wish you luck and hopes that it will all come right with no ill feelings between you. Shirley

Good thoughts are coming your way. Take comfort in the fact that you're definitely doing the right thing for both of you. Once she settles in she'll probably like it, but I'm sure you know not to expect her to ever tell you.

My good thoughts are with you and your family. My sister and I are getting up the 'nerve' and strength to deal with the same situation with our mother.

Best of luck, Gill, and hold on very hard to the though that you are doing the best thing you can, whatever the initial response from MIL is. Dawne

Gill - I hope all went well, or at best she is just annoyed. Keep going forward, don't go back.
