Is this a future quilter?

Yesterday I friend of mine needed to use the computer for some on-line Xmas shopping since hers is dead at the moment. Her 3-year-old daughter was with us in the sewing room.

3 y.o. scribbled on the chalkboard for awhile and then started rootling through my fat quarters. She'd pull them out of the box, look at them, and set them aside. Every once in while she'd pull one out and say "Oh!". Then she'd sigh and say "I looove this one." Those are the ones she'd on fold, spread on the floor to lay on, wrap around her, drape of the back of the chair, etc.

I think that she not only has excellent taste in fabric (the ones she "loooved" were some of my favorites too) but she has a stash fondling technique that can't be beat!

Sounds like a future quilter to me.

Yup. Definitely sounds like a quilter-in-training!

Maureen, is her mama a quilter? Does she know about fabric? I'm just wondering if this is learned behaviour or instinctual.

Either way, it's a sweet story and I'll bet that girl will have a degree in textile art when she grows up. Keep your eye on her.

I love this story...maybe it's in the genes or something. Now that you know she is taken with fabric at such a young age, maybe you can encourage her into sewing in a few years...Donna

You paint such a wonderful picture, Maureen. A future quilter indeed! I think I need to try some of her fondling techniques. :-)

That's an experience I hope for. Our daughters and only granddaughter haven't been very interested in my quilting. Maybe, maybe I'll get to have a great-grand who will looove. Thank you, Maureen. Polly

Her mama isn't a quilter and swears she can't sew a straight seam. Though her mama is interested in making some pillows etc for the house. So who knows?

Whoa!! That kid deserves an Auntie Maureen quilt of her own, even if it is only teddy bear size. Pat in Virginia

Actually, I just finished one for her a couple of months ago. It's for the wall in her big girl room.

Wow, she's only three years old, and she already has expert techniques in fabric-fondling AND fabric auditioning. She might have had a quilt going in a couple of hours! But quite seriously, I think this little girl has artistic inclination. I am saying this because of a little neighbor girl I knew who was absolutely fascinated with colors. Instead of reading a storybook, she'd fan the pages and say, "Oh! Look at all the colors." Yup, I see a textile artist also.
