The Directory and an interesting day

Well the DH is doing much better. I think he underestimated how sore he would be afterwards. I took him out today for a ride in the car. We needed to get Kirby's rabies shot (the township offers them free each January and Kirby was due) and then to breakfast. We then saw a movie in the afternoon. It was nice except I forgot what a terrible back seat driver he is!

He still thinks he is going to work on Monday.........

So glad to hear your DH is doing well. It's Sunday, is he still sure he's going to work tomorrow? If so, let us know how he does. Hopefully, he'll not rile anything up. Maybe you could tell him if he sets himself back by going to work, he'd better not whine about it? ;-)

Well, against my advice to stay home a few more days, he did go into work. Although he did go in later though to avoid the crowds at the train station. He said he did ok but the meds he is on made him feel like we was walking through clouds all day. He is on one antibiotic that he only takes once per day and that is the one that fogged him up. He only has two more days on that one, so this too shall pass. I know he was really getting cabin fever. I took him for a drive yesterday and let him take the wheel so he could get the feel of the road again after almost a week of no driving. His incisions look great and he is doing ok walking and bending. I think he just needs to finish off his meds (antibiotics only - no pain killers needed for the last 3 days) and then he'll be just about back to normal.

One tip for everyone, my DH only had a minor stomach ache which he thought could be just a GI bug that might be going around. However, since he has had diverticulitis attacks in the past (and he ate some forbidden candy with nuts) he decided to check it out at the doctors. That's when he found out he had appendicitis - and he was hours from having his appendix burst. If not for the past diverticulitis attacks, he would have waited for the GI bug to resolve on it's own and we all know how that story would have ended. And it would not have ended well to be sure.

So, listen to your bodies and trust your gut (no pun intended)!

Your DH is doing well Alice. I had my appendix out 28 years ago, I *think* I had a week in hospital and possibly a week at home and I *5"+ scar to show for it ( okay the scar may have stretched a little in that time). Mine was a rush job with a visit to the Dr on the Saturday morning ( at DH's insistance) and straight to the hospital to have it out as soon as appointments were over.

  • a couple of weeks late my brother had to have his out and had a scar at leat half the size of mine, I was not impressed.

Alice you are SO right...when I had appendicitis (age 19) the only symptom I had was SEVERE crmps...no nausia, no fever. Went to the ER, doctor said it was gas, said I was on some kind of drug (I had not done drugs!!) because, according to him, I didn't have the 'right' symptoms....he then gave me meds that put me to sleep and sent me home (my BF was driving). I woke up the next morning in even more pain and went to the ER again, and said I wasn't going to leave until my regular doctor got there...this time I had emergency surgery where the appendicitis burst in the doctor's hands as he removed it. That was a bit close...I filed a complaint with the hospital. I'm just thankful the appendicitis didn't burst after I was given the meds that knocked me out.
