Tote Bags

Hi, I've been lurking on your group for a long time and have gotten lots of wonderful ideas from you all. I saw this program on PBS last spring I think and when those cute little purses came up I just had to respond,(if I could check out the test below)!

This web site has a cute, easy, and fast idea for bags/purses! For purses

20" to 24" square pieces of fabric works great.

My Mom came up with 2 narrow strips for handles instead of floppy ones. For over the shoulder straps cut 2-2 1/4" WOF

1 1/4" batting as long as each fabric strip Sew the short end of each strip of fabric with it's self (to make 2 straps) this makes a circle. Put it around your ironing board. Iron each strip in half (to make it 1 1/8" wide) open and iron each edge to center open this up and place the batting in the center, iron over each edge to center, then fold once more. Sew down each side 1/8". Strap should be about a circle 1" wide and WOF. For just hand carrying purse handles, 1 strip cut in half works just fine.

If this web site doesn't work for you go on to (you will have to sign in).

The top part General instructions doesn't belong with the the Tote pattern.

I hope you will have as much fun making these as I have. Mom said it was good practice for me in learning how to meander. You always do what your Mother tells you!

My friend Susan Briscoe has a new book coming out shortly called 'Fabulous Fat Quarter Bags' if you're not in a hurry. She is British, but I think this book is being produced in the US?

I saw her yesterday and she said it was virtually finished by the publishers. . In message , patetc writes
