Transferring cotton from Large cones to smaller reels. I believe there is a gizmo I can attach to the bobbin winder. Does any one know where I can find one of these (preferably in the UK) and what name do they go by. Irene V.
I have seen a gadget called an E-Z Winder that is supposed to do that. Here is a link that shows what it looks like:

I use cone thread on my vintage machines, and am too cheap to buy thread stands for all of them. I improvised one by making a long wire hook from a wire hanger and taping it to the outside of a wide-mouth canning jar. It sits next to the portable machine on the tabletop or on the deck of a cabinet model. Ugly, but it works fine. If the cone is a bit too big to fit into the jar, I wind a dozen or so bobbins and it's ready to go.

I don't use the spool thread, instead I use the cone thread holding more than 1,000 yards. Cut off the bottom of a 2 ltr soda bottle and thread the cone thread from the bottom into the bottle and out the top. The tall bottle works great as a guide If I need a color that is on a spool, I thread it through the bottle and let it roll off. H T H Barbara in SC "
