In checking that particular ISP =

they have dial-up or DSL - both of which require phone hook-up, do they not? So she has to have phone access. Also wouldn't think that her e-mail address would appear if she were at a cyber cafe, either, would it? I'm not totally up on all of these technicalities of the Internet. Marlys in Indiana

That would be the reason not to go alone, if someone were to try to visit her. Also, she might have been put on some horrendous meds that she doesn't need either that could be making her a little paranoid. Whole thing seems very scary to me. Marlys in Indiana

HOW in the world would anyone but Donna & myself know what HER hug block looks like? There is NO photo of the block online. I don't know diddly about computers except how to turn mine on. You are welcome to rely on the headers but I'll wait to see how many more posts we get now that the poster needs to describe something that s/he likely has likely never seen! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Snigs, I picture you as Tyne Daly's character in "Judging Amy". Any resemblance?

OK. theriver.com is indeed an isp that serves primarily western Washington state and Arizona, though they have recently gone national. However, their usenet access is provided by Altopia and Supernews. This message was sent via Nationwide from their subsidy Ticon. Ticon is pretty much restricted to eastern Wisconson and it's surrounds. The only reference to TheRiver in all the headers is the return mail. The headers clearly state that the message came via Nationwide, the abuse address is clearly Ticon.

And yes, you must have a functional phone to use any of the services listed above, if you are local you do not need long distance service though.

So either Donna has a really strange isp setup, or the entire thing is forged. The IP checker-DNS trace that I usually use is down, so I can't get more specific at the minute

If someone will shoot me a copy of the headers from a definitely legitimate Donna post I'll do the compare and contrast thing. Comparing the Xtrace and such should be enlightening.

I'll sure miss Judging Amy this season. The powers that be cancelled several of the shows that we liked. Third Watch, Judging Amy, JAG are the three that comes to mind right at the moment.

Let's assume that everything is exactly as you portrayed it.

What you're asking us to do is to call the FBI and say "Some person on the internet asked me to call and say their life is in danger. No, I don't really know them. No, they didn't give me any details. But they did say you should contact one of your agents in Washington state. No, you can't call him, you have to go there in person. He has all the details, but for some reason he hasn't contacted anyone outside his office, even on your secure communications."

Believe me, it's not YOU the FBI would think is crazy.

But you obviously feel safe enough to post here, in a public forum which is easily searched, who you are and the town you live in. It shouldn't be any less safe to contact the FBI, your state's Attorney General, your state Grand Jury, the Justice Department, and anyone else in authority that might help. They all have web sites. They all have email.

Again, if this situation is real, you need to stop panicking and start thinking rationally. Don't think about what you can't do, think about what you CAN do. And do it now.

Well, they had to cancel something in order to make room for "Tommy Lee goes to college" and "Stacked". OMG, what are we coming to?

I just called information and her phone number is not given out due to her request. I asked the guy to check if the phone was working and he said yes, it was.

Interesting.

Here's a question that's been bothering me - if it is a troll, wouldn't Donna still be able to access the newsgroups & tell us it's not her that is posting these messages? And - another thought I had - wouldn't Donna be able to email other friends/relatives out of the area & ask them to help her? And one more question - She never says exactly what the problem is (unless I missed it), other than the officials are corrupt. Duh - this is America:) Maybe if the emails were more specific as to what the problem is, it would give us a clue if it's worth pursuing or not. I'm sure it's a hoax, but I would hate to believe it was a hoax & ignore her if she really is in trouble.

I would suggest that she get an appointment with her doctor and tell him of her concerns. He can monitor her well being-or lack of, and adjust medications. Gen

I have gotten more information via someone who sent headers, and finding that google has altered the archive to allow full headers to be accessed now.

I am pretty sure that this is indeed the Donna who is in the directory.

I would encourage those concerned to look her up in google and see this for themselves.

At least NCIS is still going, even though they get a cast change. Law & Order is still going in it's various forms, and the various CSI's. Other han those I've been enjoying Silent Witness, Spooks and House, Hugh Laurie is a fabulous actor!
