Wonderful gesture - quilt as a gift

I must share this beautiful quilt made for DD, who is 9 yrs old, by a wonderful person in Oz. I can't begin to tell you how excited my dd was to open the package and see this beautiful work of art.

DD will be taking a quilt course at the Bernina dealer on Wed specifically tailored for kids her age. She is looking forward to it. The perk about this course is that she gets to keep the sewing machine, a Bernette 55. She is so looking forward to having her "own" sewing machine. It's been tough on her this year with my numerous surgeries and our having to cancel our vacation to Williamsburg. She's taken it all of this so well.

Thank you Cheryl for making R's day, you are truly amazing.

What you did not mention is that the "work of art" is only a little quilted mat for under the new sewing machine (about placemat size) LOL. And of course it had to be a "cat thing".

My days of making "big" quilts are almost behind me now, but this was fun and I am glad R liked it. I hope she becomes as keen and skilled a sewer as her mother.

What an adorable quilt! And how nice of Cheryl to have sent it (why am I not surprised by acts of kindness from members of this group?). No matter the size, the quilt is wonderful -- and having a mat to put under R's own machine will be so fun, though I'd be tempted to put it *over* the machine so it would show.

put my pattern into EQ5 so I could resize and play withcolours.

In the wallhanging this block is *me*.

Is it pieced or applique?

I have that site bookmarked already. Thanks for thinking of it though.

Poddy looks very contented. Debra in VA See my quilts at

All individual blocks are applique.

I even found it easier to applique the striped "frames" in the wallhanging. I applique onto pre-quilted fabric.

Poddy is . . . . . . just Poddy (aka Enness - as in N.S., short for No-name Slob, the cat in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, also rescued from life as an abandoned cat). Pod is now over 17yo and very much the "grande dame" of the household.

Awww! That's cute! :)

I love the bit about getting the machine to keep! Better than a holiday! And a great reward for being such a treasure. :)

Hope you are recovering well from all the surgeries...

Indeed. :)

I'd hang it on the wall behind MY sewing machine, to inspire me when I set to work. :)
