I've never been to an AC Moore. Someone who's been to both, a comparison, and is this likely to make Michaels better or worse?

It has been my experience that AC Moore's prices are just a little lower on most items. Both stores are in my area (south central PA), but the AC Moore is further away, so this is good news, I think.

Both stores have 40% off (on a single regular pried item) evey week. Do they do that in other areas as well?

AC Moore ROCKS!! Their prices are better on MOST things, they are more customer oriented, carry a more diverse line of products and renews things unlike Michael's where they always seem to have the same ole same ole everywhere.

I heard that Michaels was being sold, so since we do not have AC Moore west of the Mississippi tis is FANTASTIC!!

No, it's not cool, if it takes competition out of the marketplace. Since I have both an AC Moore and a Michael's here (and they seem to carry different lines, and honour each other's coupons) this is not good news for me.

Yanya, I live near both stores but AC Moore is further away and I don't get to go very often. I prefer AC Moore because they seem to always have a better selection. They change around their inventory too, which is nice because sometimes I'm in a rush and don't see everything! :( When I return, I see new things, even if they aren't so new :)

Michaels NEVER moves inventory, I go there but will always go to AC Moore over Michaels! Maybe some Michaels will become AC Moore's! *grinning at the thought!*

I've noticed that about Michael's the very seldom have something new. Once I've used my 40% coupons and bought the stuff I want there is usually nothing new for a VERY long time.

We have a Michaels here, but no AC Moore. I'm fine with change, as long as they don't shut down the store here. LOL We have HL, though, so I could still live with that. LOL

Yep - the chain stores have lots of inventory, but it's by the big scrapbook companies, and they buy so much of it that the inventory hangs around for a long time. But I like going there for tools or generic kinda stuff, the prices are good.

But for the new stuff, the hot stuff, the stuff by the new little companies, I go to my LSS. The prices are a bit more but I don't mind, the service is great and the atmosphere is fun. I like to have both options available.

Sally, I have to agree with you on shopping at LSS for the "hotstuff"! I tend to buy supplies like tools and adhesives, markers, etc.at HL and Michaels, but the newer lines and embellishment stuff I think local LSS's carry more. And they are usually so great and I m glad I find cool stuff, so I dont care what they cost!! (well, to an extent.......>grin< ) Linda

I have been to AC Moore while we were on vacation and thought the prices were absolutely wonderful. We don't have them in Michigan. They had much of the same things, but I came away wishing they had them somewhere close.

I read in a business newspaper and on the business news a few weeks ago that Michaels was going out of business so asked a clerk when I was there last week. She said she hadn't heard anything about it. Soooo...what IS going on? Anyone else hear anything? I've never been to an AC Moore's but hear their great. SAD

I read in the business section of my local paper that ACMoore is buying Michaels. This story was a couple weeks ago or so.

My question for ACMoore shoppers is this; How big are their stores? Micheals stores are way too small. I think that's part of their problem. They just don't have space to carry very much product. On the other hand, they cram the aisles full and have very narrow aisles. Would an ACMoore fit into a Micheals building? Here in the central states we have the best hobby store there is, Hobby Lobby. They're huge and have great sales all the time. I'd sure like to see an ACMoore though.

Our AC Moores are bigger and better stocked than our Michaels are, also AC Moores seems brighter.
